Working alongside the de Blasio administration, the City Council secured a total of $12 million for fiscal year 2019 to continue funding for Adult Literacy Education programs. CPC Brooklyn Seniors Participate in CaringKind's Alzheimer's Walk on Coney Island BoardwalkOn September 23rd, CPC Brooklyn Community Services staff accompanied 25 seniors services members to participate in CaringKind's Annual Alzheimer's Walk in Coney Island . The annual walk raises awareness and funding to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Lois Lee is the First Recipient of the Elinor Guggenheimer Advocacy AwardOn October 13, 2018, the Daycare Council of New York (DCCNY) honored the Unsung Heroes of the Early Childhood field. The Federal Administration, via the Department of Health and Human Services, is proposing to define gender as binary, either male or female, and determined by genitalia at birth or through genetic test, according to a leaked memo obtained by the New York Times. CPC Youth Advocate for a Healthier CommunityThe New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene published an article in the Journal of Urban Health about a decline in blood mercury levels. Direct outreach conducted by local community based organizations including CPC may have contributed to these promising results! Wayne Ho Named City & State NY 2018 Nonprofit Power 50On October 8, 2018, City & State NY published their "2018 Nonprofit Power 50." CPC's President & CEO, Wayne Ho, was named number 48 on the list. CPC BCS Flu Shot and Hep B ScreeningCPC Brooklyn Community Services partnered with SUNY Downstate Medical Center's Asian Pacific American Medical Society (APAMS) to provide flu shots and Hepatitis B screening for our community members on October 20th, 2018 at CPC's Brooklyn Community Center. On October 22nd, 2018, Judy successfully passed the Naturalization Test and is on her way to becoming a U.S. Citizen, realizing a life-long dream. HIV/AIDS is an ageless disease that can affect anyone. Everyone has the opportunity to fight against cultural and social stigma related to HIV and AIDS. Getting tested is one way to do that. Free testing will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the CPC Manhattan Community Services Center (165 Eldridge Street New York, NY 10002). The first 15 attendees receive a $10 Starbucks gift card. CPC and Mount Sinai staffs will also be available to answer any questions for clients regarding HIV, Hepatitis C and STD testing.
