CPC is Thankful for Our Community

CPC's Early Childhood Centers, Senior Centers, Community Centers, and programs celebrated Thanksgiving with our children and families. Children participated in fun holiday activities both in-person and remotely. Our seniors were able to spend Thanksgiving with a warm meal thanks to turkey and prepared meal donations. Food was also distributed in Chinatown, Lower East Side, Flushing, and Sunset Park.

December 1st is #WorldAIDSDay, a day to unite to end the HIV epidemic, support people living with HIV, and honor those who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS. 500 Safe from Hate Security Alarms Donated to CPC Home Care Workers, Staff, and Community Members

#SafeFromHate donated 500 alarms to CPC in November to support home care workers, CPC staff, and working parents. "All my aides are so appreciative for this surprise gift.  They said it came just in time since it gets dark early, especially for those who leave work around seven or eight o’clock in the evening," said Karina Lee, Director of Patient Services, Chinese-American Planning Council Home Attendant Program (CPCHAP). CPC Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer Carlyn Cowen testified at a remote Contracts Committee Hearing on November 25th to advocate for reinstating funding for indirect costs. Carlyn was at a food distribution at one of CPC's sites during their testimony, highlighting how critical every staff person and function within an organization is to the ability to meet the most urgent needs of NYC's residents.

On November 22nd, the CPC Wellness Program at Hong Ning Housing, and the CPC Youth Services' Learn and Earn Program partnered up to do a cleanup of the parking lot at Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly! The lot was covered from the fall foliage as well as residuals from various construction and trenching that has been taking place there.

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Harold Lui, a Founding Member and a former Executive Director of CPC. Harold was an incredible advocate whose life's work was dedicated to ensuring others had support to pursue a healthy and fulfilling life. Though he will be greatly missed, his generous work lives on.

Remote Free Immigration Legal Consultation Day
Chinese-American Planning Council Brooklyn Community Services in partnership with NYS Office for New Americans (ONA) will be hosting a Remote Immigration Legal Consultation Day on Thursday, November 12th, 2020! If you need help on immigration application or have immigration concerns, please call to make an appointment to speak with our ONA Legal Counsel! Consultations are free and available to everyone. Space is limited, please call to make your appointment!

Career Center
Many of our services are available via virtual/remote access. We will be providing one-on-one career counseling, resume reviewing, searching and applying for jobs, and more. To get started, simply fill out a short info form at https://tiny.cc/cpccareercenter. Staff from the Career Center will respond within two business days with the next steps. Communication will be mainly conducted through online services (i.e. Zoom) and email.
