Wildcat Golf Academy members worked hard throughout the year and it showed on the links as many made an impact on the local, regional and national scenes. Today's enewsletter highlights some of those golfers and their accomplishments. Congrats to all who competed this summer and worked hard to improve their game!

• 2014 Runner Up in Girls Match Play at the Chick Evans Junior Championship

• 2014 Medalist at the IJGA Sectional #5, Highland Park & IJGA, Wilmette Golf Club

• Tied for 1st at IJGA at Briarwood & 2nd, IJGA at Sportsman's

• Participated in the POY, IJGA with the top golfers in Illinois at Rich Harvest Farms

When did you start playing golf? Beginning of 8th grade

What is your favorite course to play? Hickory Point because it is the state course and I always look forward to playing it each year.

What has been your best golf score and where did you play this round? 71, IJGA Tournament, Wilmette Golf Course

Name three courses in the world you would like to play: Gleneagles, Pebble Beach, Augusta

Who is your golf role model and why? Rory McIlroy, because his driver sets the tone for his round. I play the same way.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of golf? Travel

What is your favorite subject in school? Science

If you could go to dinner with any three people (alive or dead), who would they be? Adam Scott, Shailene Woodley, Prince Harry

What has been one valuable skill that you have learned or improved on through the Wildcat Golf Academy?: Chipping


Matt Murlick • Junior • Winnetka, IL

Matt Murlick, a junior from Winnetka, IL, was the 2014 Chick Evans Junior Champion. He also earned medalist honors at the MAGT's Championship at Royal Hawk and finished in the top 10 of 5/7 MAGT tournaments. Murlick led the MAGT in point standings and is a member of the MAGT All-Midwest Boys Team.

Andrew Huber • Junior • Winnetka, IL

Andrew Huber, a junior from Winnetka, IL, won the 2014 IJGA-CDGA Illinois State Junior Amateur at Mill Creek Golf Club. He shot a three-day, two under part 211 (69-67-75) to earn medalist honors.


Ethan Farnam • Sophomore • Crystal Lake, IL

A sophomore from Crystal Lake, IL, Ethan Farnam qualified for the US Junior Amateur at The Club at Carlton Woods, Woodlands, TX. He finished second and shot a 68 at the Qualifier to advance to Carlton Woods. Farnam also finished 8th at the Illinois State Junior Am.

Farnam shot a school record 67 at the Crystal Lake Invitational to kick off the 2014 high school season.


WGA Summer Medalists

The following Wildcat Golf Academy members earned medalist honors in a variety of tournaments around the Chicagoland area this summer!

  • Katie Lillie - IJGA Maggie Rodgers Tournament at Inverness (14-15); IJGA Open #8 @ Sportsman’s; and advanced to the quarterfinals of Chick Evans
  • Chip Savarie - Jr Elite Series #1 @ Deerfield (10-15)
  • John Kryscio - IJGA Sectional #5 at Highland Park GC (14-15)
  • Connor Prassas - IJGA Open #9 at Deerfield (14-15)  
  • Nicholas Rossini - IJGA Open #15 at Wilmette (16-18)
  • Madison Banas - First Flight at the 2014 Goodman Cup
  • Hanna Tanaka - Girls 12-13 IJGA YDP Event #4 at Foss Park
  • Kimberly Stafford - YDP Event #6 at Deerpath (10-13)
  • Sophia Lau - YDP Event #3 at Winnetka GC (10-13)
  • Ryan Banas - YDP Event #1 at Winnetka (8-9)

Wildcat Golf Academy Future Programming

The Wildcat Golf Academy for Juniors is a year-round program. The Winter session takes place at the Gleacher Golf Center on the Northwestern University campus, home of the Wildcat men and women's golf teams. The 2014 Winter I schedule will be released in mid-September. The winter programs have limited availability so please make sure you register upon receipt of the release. 2014 WGA Summer Highlights

Hanna Tanaka & Sophia Lau finish 1-2 at IJGA's Foss Park. Katie Lillie earns medalist honors at IJGA Northshore Open with a 76. Nine-year old Jason Gordon won first place in the PGA's Drive Putt & Chip competition at Harborshide International. Jeremy Edelson was the medalist in the 16-18 boys division at Foss Park. Charlie Van Cleave finished 2nd at the IJGA Bonnie Brook Tournament, 75.
Molly Van Gorp finished 2nd at the Indian Hill Club Girls Junior Championship - 18 hole division. Tyler Van Gorp won the Indian Hill Club Championship 9-hole division. Chloe Morrissey finished first in the Drive, Putt, Chip Championship at Pine Meadows (12-13 division). John Kryscio competing at MAGT's The Den Championship. WGA & Walter Payton HS Team Members


2014 Summer Highlights - Take II

Amelia and Dave Morris Madison Banas finished second at the Al McLean Open at Wilmette. Ryan Banas won the YDP Event #1 at Winnetka. Reb Banas
