Back to Business
In just two short weeks, lawmakers will be back to work in Salem deciding whether or not to move forward on a package of three foreclosure bills. Yesterday, The Oregonian called on legislators to make these bills a priority – now we need you to do the same.
As part of our network of engaged consumers, you know how the foreclosure crisis is impacting families, our neighborhoods and our economy - so we're calling on you to have a voice in the fight for foreclosure reform!
Lawmakers are in Salem for the next three days making decisions on the issues they will work on in February. Make a call urging them to put foreclosure prevention and bank accountability at the top of the priority list. Dial 1-800-332-2313. The operator will help connect you to your lawmaker.
As part of our outreach efforts, EFO recently hosted a community forum on foreclosures in Hillsboro. Turnout was high - which is a good thing in theory, but also means more and more of us are directly facing issues related to the housing crisis each day. You can watch a clip of Bend resident and homeowner advocate Tim Collette speaking to concerned community members here:
In the midst of the housing meltdown, funding cuts to a crucial Oregon program have put several homeowners at risk of losing their homes. The Oregon Senior and Disabled Property Tax Deferral program changed its requirements this year, which led to many Oregonians dropped from the program. Please visit this site to learn more about how you can aid in the effort to help seniors stay in their homes.
Lastly, we'll be hitting the road next week to help some of our partner groups in their efforts to better educate the public on issues of consumer protection and how to make your voice heard in the legislative process. If you live in the Roseburg area, you'll have three opportunities to attend one of our events. You can find out the details here, or contact us at 503.236.6088 for more information.
Our consumer advocacy is funded by donations from the public. Please consider making a contribution to help us continue our work fighting for the financial rights of Oregonians!
