It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Maria Poon, a champion and supporter of CPC. Maria and her husband Jim Poon were invited by William Tam, former CPC board member, to CPC’s 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2015. Since then, they became generous contributors, loyal supporters and ambassadors of CPC’s mission. Maria was a caring and passionate person who brightened others’ lives with grace and strength. Among her family and extended family, she was revered as a good wife, a good mother, and a woman with compassion and kindness. Maria passed away on May 2, 2020 in Manhattan at the age of 76 due to COVID-19-related respiratory failures. She is survived by her husband of almost 48 years, Jim Poon, her daughter Elizabeth Poon, her son Joseph Poon and her grandchildren Sam Poon, Ellie Poon, William Poon, Ryan Hom and Christopher Hom.
We sincerely thank the family of Maria Poon for recognizing CPC as the recipient of memorial gifts in honor of Maria. We have received $12,364 donations to Maria Poon’s Charity Fund. The family has generously committed to match dollar to dollar to gifts, for a total of $24,728. This fund will be designated to support CPC's senior services as per the family’s request. The family also pledged that they will continue to dedicate their focus on and support of charities in order to perpetually uphold Maria’s legacy. We feel privileged to be able to honor Maria’s memory, her kindness, her generosity and commitment to the community. Thank you to all who made contributions in celebration of Maria’s legacy.
