Spring Convocation Update -- May 31 - June 1

The 2012 Spring Convocation ceremonies take place Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1 in the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness. 

Approximately 1,500 people are eligible to graduate, and this year more than 1,100 graduands will attend four ceremonies over a two-day period.  

Ceremonies are free and open to the public, starting at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day.  Get all the details, including the list of student academic achievement medals, here.

Watch Online: Convocation ceremonies will be streamed online. This web link will be live about 10 minutes prior to the start of each ceremony.

CIHR Awards Dr. Ute Kothe 2012 Synapse Prize for Mentorship

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has announced that Dr. Ute Kothe (Chemistry and Biochemistry), has received its 2012 Synapse Mentorship Award – Individual Researcher.

The award, which is worth $5,000, is one three handed out nationally -- and the U of L's first. The award recognizes the efforts of a health researcher who has made exceptional efforts to promote health research among Canada's students. Learn more here.

New Quality Assurance Website Launched

The University Review Committee recently launched a completely redesigned Quality Assurance website.

U of L Community Cookbook Supports ULSU Food Bank

The University of Lethbridge Bookstore and the University of Lethbridge Students' Union are creating a Staff and Faculty cookbook.

This cookbook will include a collection of U of L Staff and Faculty recipes, published right here on campus.  It will be available for faculty, staff, students and the general public to purchase in the fall, with all profits being donated to the ULSU Food Bank.

8th Annual Bee Heart Smart Challenge: Walk or Ride your Bike to Work

This week's challenge is simple -- walk or ride your bike to work.  Log your participation on the Heart Smart Challenge website, and win a prize -- like last week's winner, Trevor Flexhaug from the "Fitbits." 

This initiative for U of L employees is sponsored by the Wellness Committee with support from the Web Team, Sport and Recreation Services and AUPE.

The goal of the  Bee Heart Smart Challenge is to promote an increase in activity, improve health and offer a fun challenge to your co-workers!

Team Fiat Lux fights cancer - again!

Every year, a dedicated group of staff and Faculty from the University of Lethbridge participates in the Annual Relay for Life in Lethbridge.

This is a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society and it involves an overnight event where the University team, Fiat Lux, will spend 12 hours (7p.m. to 7a.m.) on June 8 and 9 walking together.

Eduroam Provides Secure Wireless Access Worldwide

The University of Lethbridge has joined Eduroam, a service that provides secure access to wireless networks at cooperating educational institutions worldwide.

Using Eduroam, U of L staff and faculty can obtain Internet connectivity when visiting participating institutions by simply logging onto their computer or wireless device with their U of L usernames and passwords.

The U of L is recruiting 2 teams & fans for a ROAD TRIP to KALISPELL, MONTANA to take part in their inaugural Dragon Boat Festival on scenic Flathead Lake.

Weekend of September 7 – 9, 2012

Race Date: Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 on Flathead Lake

Entry Fee: No Charge.
