Abernethy Enterprise Challenge for Schools

In 2018 we invited schools within a radius of our Nethybridge centre to take part in The Abernethy Enterprise Challenge for Schools.  Schools that took part were given £25 to invest in starting up their own business.  With 5 weeks to make plans, launch the idea and count the profits, we're really proud of everyone who got involved and took up the challenge!

The Enterprise Challenge will be back for 2019.  Follow this link to our website to see more about the challenge and watch a short video where teachers and pupils describe their experience.

Meet an Abernethy Instructor...

We are very proud of our team!  As a group of four outdoor Centres, all of our staff are Christians and we hope that the love and care your group receives from each team member reflects what each person on the team believes.

Pete White (left) is our Chief Instructor at Abernethy Ardgour.

"I work with our Trainee Instructors here at the Abernethy School of Adventure Leadership and I love to wotk with individuals and see them grow."

And it's exciting to hear feedback from pupils like this, "I'm going to advise every P6 to go to camp because it is absolutely brilliant.  Also when you go to camp it is really really good because the activities are amazing and so are all the instructors and it is a really good experience."

Does Abernethy have an impact?

We've been finding ways to measure the impact we have!  We asked our younger guests to Nethybridge to drop a token into various gold-coloured containers, with simple yes and no answers to a question of the week.

Of the people who took part, 89.5% say that Abernethy has helped them grow in confidence, and 93.3% overcame a challenge at Abernethy!

We're proud to be a part of helping people grow while on a residential  We want to continue to creare an atmosphere where young people feel comfortable to push themselves and try new things.

Get in touch to see how a residential trip fits in with the Curriculum for Excellence and can help your class grow.  Contact Lesley Pearson, our Schools Business Manager on 01313 363588 or by e-mail.  If you'd like to have a tour of one of our Centres (such as Ardgour, pictured above in the sun), we'd love to get a Preview Visit in the diary for you to experience Abernethy for yourself.

What next?

Gap Year: We offer a range of Gap Year placements, mostly starting in August (there are sometimes opportunities to join us throughout the year).  If you know someone who would be interested in joining our team, please let them know!

Further training: Our one year Trainee Instructor Course at the Abernethy School of Adventure Leadership is a great alternative for those looking to gain qualifications but not be confined to a desk!  Learning to lead a group, present a morning thought to the team and helping to co-ordinate groups of young people is a great way to develop character as well as a CV

Our next Taster Weekend for the Trainee Instructor Course is 0– 07 July and there are a few spots remaining.

Watch our short video for a taste of what a year-long Trainee Instructor’s Course might be like!

There’s also the option of joining one of our NGB Courses if they want to gain a specific outdoor qualification.
