What's New?
Parks Replacement Bond Construction

Pioneer Courthouse Square is receiving major repairs and renovations thanks to the Parks Replacement Bond, overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2014. This is the largest Parks Replacement Bond project. Construction at the Square began on Monday, January 30th and substantial completion is expected by the end of July 2017.

For the duration of the project, the Square’s businesses will remain open. This includes Travel Portland, TriMet, Starbucks, Portland Walking Tours and Big Red Arrow Gift Shop, Spellbound Flowers, and the Square’s food carts Philly’s on the Phly and Shelly’s Honkin’ Huge Burritos. Public restrooms in the Square will be closed, and signage will direct the public to alternate nearby public restrooms. A map of alternate restroom locations can be found here.

As part of the Parks Replacement Bond project, all of the Square’s bricks with names on them that are impacted by construction will be replaced with original inscriptions in a similar location.

All are welcome to a special celebration at the Square on Monday, February 6th at 12:00pm to mark the start of construction. Speakers will include Portland Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) Director Mike Abbaté, and Pioneer Courthouse Square Board President Dan Lavey. The celebration will take place on the corner of SW Broadway and SW Yamhill Street, where the majority of renovations will take place.

More information can be found in the Parks Replacement Bond FAQs or on the Pioneer Courthouse Square bond project website.

Did You Know?
Allow Me Gets a Spa Treatment!

In preparation for the Parks Replacement Bond renovations, the Regional Arts & Culture Council, working with the Square's staff and contractor Howard S. Wright, removed the iconic Allow Me sculpture from the Square. The 460 pound bronze sculpture will be stored off-site for six months while construction proceeds. During this time, RACC staff and art conservators will clean the surface, re-freshen the figure’s painted highlights, and apply a hot wax protective finish.
