TWO MOUTH WATERING DOCOS...

FINDING GASTON
FINDING GASTON

Peruvian superchef Gaston Acurio began his restaurant career in Lima, serving up French cuisine with his German wife, Astrid, but feeling unfulfilled, he began thinking about the richness of his country’s gastronomic tradition, and the restaurant Astrid y Gaston was born, consistently earning coveted spots on lists of the world’s top dining establishments. Director Patricia Perez shows  Acurio’s infectious passion for using local produce, supporting indigenous farmers and sourcing seafood from sustainable fishermen, as he speaks to the camera, to his chefs, to his students…and, of course, in the delectable dishes he serves. Today, Acurio has top-rated franchises from Miami to London and Peruvian cuisine has become renowned for being arguably the best in the world – find out why.

12.15pm SUNDAY,
NOVEMBER 8, TRAMSHEDS THEATRE

GOOD THINGS AWAIT
GOOD THINGS AWAIT

Anyone interested in the Slow Food movement and organic farming — biodynamic agriculture in particular — will find inspiration in director Phie Ambo’s up-close look at harmonious husbandry. But her film is also a story of dispiriting conflict, as the art and soul of one man’s life’s work runs smack up against a wall of inflexible bureaucracy, drawing inevitable comparisons with the Elgaar Farm saga played out locally. Like the once-dominant Danish Red cattle he breeds, Niels Stokholm, nearing 80, white-bearded and usually clad in green overalls, is among the last of his kind, yet the Stokholms’ produce, meat and cheese shows up on the menus of such foodie destinations as Copenhagen’s acclaimed Noma. An extraordinary film about one visionary farmer’s deeply felt sense of his place in the universe.

3pm SATURDAY,
NOVEMBER 7, QVMAG THEATRE

Sharing The Bounty
BOFA IN ACTION- SHARING THE BOUNTY

There is an enormous opportunity to further develop a vibrant local food economy, keeping the value of the produce as much as possible in Tasmania.

This BOFA Action Session will be highlighting how we can innovate and “share the bounty” of our food system with those most in need of it locally and elsewhere.

A number of short films will be used to stimulate discussion, then leaders from the food and wine and tourism industries will engage topics such as innovation and new technology, developing a local food economy, branding and food opportunities, ageing and eating disorders, export opportunities and bringing people to the food experience.

As with all the BOFA in Action sessions the emphasis is on ACTION and the day will end with a practical session on turning ideas into action.

IF YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN TASMANIA’S FOOD AND WINE INDUSTRIES, COME ALONG AND HAVE YOUR SAY.
COST: $110 (includes lunch)
