Welcome the newest member of the DOKC team Join us in welcoming our new Director of Operations, A.J. Kirkpatrick. A.J. is from Wichita, KS and has a dual Masters in City and Regional Planning and Geography from Ohio State University. He moved to Oklahoma City in 2005 and immediately began working in the Urban Redevelopment Division of the City of Oklahoma City’s Planning Department. As our Director of Operations, A.J. will oversee the Business Improvement District (BID) as well as security and maintenance for The Underground tunnel system and the Bricktown Canal. He will also help launch new programs and initiatives for the greater downtown area, focusing on density, transportation and business development.
“I’m eager to work with the downtown community in a new way,” said Kirkpatrick. “I’ll be communicating directly with the BID Board of Directors to implement new services that have been requested by downtown stakeholders in past planning efforts.” “Adding A.J. to the DOKC staff will really take this organization to the next level,” said Jane Jenkins, president and CEO of Downtown OKC, Inc. “His expertise will help DOKC provide even better benefits to BID members, the various districts, and downtown residents, employees and visitors. He’s a great resource and wealth of knowledge.” Kirkpatrick was part of the Core to Shore Planning Team and oversaw the completion of the Bricktown Parking Study, the Bricktown Strategic Plan, and the Urban Land Institute Core to Shore Advisory Panel. Kirkpatrick is a member of Leadership OKC’s LOYAL Class 2 and is a past recipient of OKC Business’s Forty Under 40 award. He is founding member of the Oklahoma District Council of the Urban Land Institute and is currently its Programming and Initiatives Chair.
The Myriad Gardens presents two new evening programsThe Myriad Botanical Gardens announces two new evening programs designed to bring family and friends together in the lovely garden setting. Movies Under the Stars will continue every Wednesday through August with movies beginning at 9 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring a blankets or lawn chairs. Coolers for refreshments are permitted. Open containers of alcohol are prohibited. A movie schedule is available at the Myriad Gardens website. Cocktails in the Gardens will be held weekly through August from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. in the Myriad Gardens restaurant space, presenting an opportunity for friends to socialize and unwind after a day of work with light hor d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Cocktails in the Gardens will be held every Thursday evening until the end of August. $5 cover. Free to members of the Myriad Botanical Gardens.

“Razing Hops & Hell” Tour to make a stop in OKC Mustang Brewing Company celebrates its third anniversary with the Razing Hops & Hell music tour, which will stop at downtown OKC's own Wormy Dog Saloon on July 21.
Come celebrate with two of Oklahoma's most talented bands, The Turnpike Troubadours and The Brandon Clark Band. There will also be Mustang beer specials all night long. OKC National Memorial hosts First Person Summer Series Join the Oklahoma City National Memorial for their First Person: Stories of Hope speaker series and hear from people whose remarkable stories evoke feelings of compassion, hope, and inspiration to live our lives more meaningfully. Survivor Derek Smithee will speak tomorrow, July 20 at 1:30 p.m. about his experience. Derek Smithee, Water quality Programs Division Chief for the Oklahoma Water Resources Board was working inthe OWRB Building on April 19, 1995. He joined the OWRB in 1987 after earning a BS in zoology from Oklahoma State University and an MS in environmental science from Oklahoma University. Don't miss this opportunity to experience history - and the Oklahoma Standard - from those who lived it. This presentation is free with Museum admission. Free Family Movie Night in the Boathouse District The Boathouse District offers free family movie nights this summer on the banks of the Oklahoma River. The Muppets (2011), will be screened this Saturday, July 21 at 8:30 p.m. Admission and parking at the corner of Lincoln Blvd. and S.E. 6th St. are free and concessions will be available for purchase. Movie-goers are invited to bring their chairs and blankets to get comfortable and watch the film, which will be displayed on the side of the Chesapeake Finish Line Tower. Boathouse District Family Movie Night takes place following RIVERSPORT Adventure Saturdays, which provides a new way to experience more than a dozen fun and exciting activities on the Oklahoma River for one price. Activities include rowing and kayaking lessons, Paddle Now kayak, stand up paddle board and dragon boat experiences, the kayak plunge and more. Adventure Saturdays take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Boathouse District, Lincoln Blvd and S.E. 6th Street. Day passes are $40 for adults or $20 for youth ages 8-12; season passes are $85 for adults or $45 for youth ages 8-12. Singers & Songwriters perform a free concert this SundayThis summer the Sunday Twilight Concert Series, presented by Devon Energy, invites music lovers of all ages to free, family-friendly concerts at the Myriad Gardens. This Sunday, July 22 at 7:30 p.m., a variety of artists take the stage for a very special Singer/Songwriter Night! A first for the Sunday night concert series, the singer/songwriter-themed concert transforms the evening into a showcase for a variety of talented musicians. From the smooth and classic tunes of Bob Moore to the folksy, playful lyrics of Carter Sampson and genres in-between, this special night is sure to provide a little something for everyone. “Our singer/songwriter night is a wonderful showcase of talent and variety,” comments Christina Foss, director of the Sunday Twilight Concert Series, presented by Devon Energy. “It’s the perfect way to relax with friends or family before starting the work week!” This remainder of this year’s lineup, which is subject to change, is as follows:

Every little thing is gonna be alright at Bricktown's Reggae Fest Head to Bricktown for Reggae Fest, presented by Oklahoma Chevy Team Dealers, next weekend on July 27-28. The festival will be held outdoors under the tents on the corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma Ave. in the Heart of Bricktown. The Downtown Library hosts book clubs for downtownersThe Downtown Library is now offering the High Noon Book Club to businesses and organizations in the downtown area. If you're thinking of starting a book club during lunch (or any time that's convenient for your group), contact the library and they'll come to you. Here's how it works: simply tell them what type of selections you want to read (current fiction, travel, biographies, history, etc.) and they'll host the discussion, help you make selections and recommend other materials that might be of interest.
