Sushi Making for Japanese Cultural DayOn Sunday August 18, almost 10,000 people visited the Brisbane Botanic Gardens for Japanese Cultural Day, a celebration for Japan Week. NAQ Nutrition were excited to be part of this fabulous event, holding sushi workshops throughout the day for people to come and learn how to make their own sushi - the original Japanese street food. The enthusiastic sushi makers were taught how to prepare sushi rice and some tasty fillings and then given a demonstration on how to roll a perfect sushi roll. Everyone got to chose from a variety of different fillings - chicken teriyaki + avocado, tuna + cucumber, and tofu + veggie. While the rolling took some practice and help from the volunteers, in the end everyone produced a fabulous sushi roll to snack on while they continued their exploration of the gardens. Some top sushi making tips:
Thanks to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens for involving us in this event, everyone who came along and participated on the day, and the wonderful volunteers who helped everyone roll their sushi! Recipe IdeaChicken Noodle Salad Check out our Instagram account for more food inspiration from the NAQ Nutrition team! This chicken noodle salad is a great recipe idea to try this spring, full of both colour and flavour. Simply mix together some cooked rice noodles, leftover shredded roast chicken, finely sliced red onion, carrot and cucumber, along with some roasted cashews and fresh coriander. Finish with a fresh chilli, ginger and lime juice dressing, to taste. This salad can be prepared in advance and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for a couple of days. Change the ingredients to suit your and your family's food preferences, or to include what you have available.
