Statement from Regional Chair Bob Gale on the resolution of the police incident in Welland

Regional Chair Gale provided the following statement regarding the resolution of the active shooter situation which was resolved this morning:

"On behalf of Regional Council, I would like to personally thank and commend the Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara EMS, and Welland Fire for their exceptional work in responding to this challenging situation and keeping our community safe.

Their prompt and professional response, open communication, and collaboration with Niagara Region, the City of Welland and other agencies meant that this situation was resolved in a way that protected that the safety and wellbeing of our community.

I would also like to recognize our Regional staff who supported our first responders and protected the safety of the residents in our care at Regional facilities in the area."
