Key Messages Week 7 - Term 4In and Around the School Year 9/10 Entrepreneurs class 2019 The 2019 Entrepreneurs class has been working very hard this semester to develop a program that will see students becoming more active during their lunch breaks at JPC. The class has worked together on the project throughout term 3 and 4, and hope to have the program “Get up Get Active” ready to launch at the beginning of the school year in 2020. Each week will feature a different sport or activity, offering students a chance to get involved and try something new. Weeks will alternate, from a competitive traditional sport one week (i.e. Netball, Soccer, Basketball) to a less competitive activity the next (i.e. skipping, walking group, yoga). On Tuesday the 26th of November, 3 year 9 girls from this class attended a conference at the Department of Health in Woden, to pitch their idea to the governing body of the It’s Your Move program, in a bid for more funding for our project. The girls impressed not only their teacher but the panel of 3 judges who were amazed by their professionalism, commitment to the project and confidence. Lordana Ibrahim, Grace Dwyer and Gabby Jordan all did a fantastic job at representing their class and what they have been working this semester. Well done girls! Watch this space in 2020 for the roll-out of the new program, Get Up Get Active! Fleur Greaney 9/10 Entrepreneurs Teacher Instrumental Concert On Tuesday, November 26th, the students at JPC who were receiving instrumental and vocal lessons put on a performance for all to see. From a variety of solo, duos and bands, the students put their best foot forward when playing, and made a great afternoon for everyone watching to enjoy. After putting in the many hours, the student’s efforts paid off, and they were able to show off their great talents to both parents and others of the school community. A special thanks to Sharon Robinson and Aron Lyon for organising the concert for the talented students to perform in and give them an opportunity to show what they can offer in the musical department. Campbell Ellison, Year 10 Leadership Day On the Monday 25th of November, 5 students attended a leadership function at the Legislative Assembly. Throughout the day we participated in a political panel discussion as well as participating in relevant mock legislative debates relating to community issues impacting today’s society. This opportunity allowed us to broaden our knowledge of how our local parliament works to improve the wellbeing of the ACT community. We met political leaders that represent our electret division and spoke about issues directly affecting us. One of the most memorable moments from the day was the panel discussion with various people who work for legislative members. This encouraged the students involved to participate and ask questions relating to the government; giving further insight into how the legislative assembly works. Thank you to Mrs Tually for giving us the opportunity to meet political leaders and broaden our understanding of our local parliament. As in previous years, JPC will be supporting the Vinnies Christmas Appeal by creating Christmas Hampers to donate. Students in each PC group will be asked to donate and collect selected foods items, which we then organise into hampers. These hampers are delivered to families in our local community who are in need. We look forward to the continued support of all the families in our JPC community to make this a special Christmas for all.
Alison Middleton SportACT Girls Rugby League Our very own Cholhok Fieg represented the ACT in the U15’s girls Rugby League team. Coach Sheree Bush, passed on a few words to congratulate Cholhok and her team and they are summarised below: “Leading up to their games the girls trained twice a week and learnt a great deal throughout this process as they were dedicated and were all hard workers. This group of girls were selected through a trial process and were named as members of the first ever ACT Schoolgirls Rugby League team. They played in two competitions the first being held at Albury against a Victorian team from Mt Ridley school in October. The opposition team had a lot of size but this did not deter the ACT girls as they used their speed and skill to their advantage. The girls came away with a 22-4 win and were outstanding on and off the field. The second game the girls played was yesterday against a NSW Catholic schools team and also had a win in this game 40 – 14. Every girl on the field played well and worked as a team to get the job done. The girls worked very hard to achieve these results and showed the up and coming talent that exists in the Canberra region in girls rugby league. “ Congratulations on your efforts Cholhok. We are super proud of you. DefenceDefence Pizza Lunch There will be a Pizza Lunch for our Defence Students on Monday, Week 8 to celebrate the End of Year.
