FROM THE CEO OF QLECS

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

At our recent early Childhood Conference, the theme was ‘Share the Load’. Pastor Mark Hampel from Beenleigh opened the conference with a devotion based on the above verse. One of the key ways we can achieve this is through effective relationships.  The best relationships and partnerships are built on mutual respect and interdependence. Having agreement is a key ingredient to successful partnerships, along with understanding of each other’s positions, a commitment to service and quality and a willingness to adapt and accommodate to the perspectives of the other person.  It all starts with honesty and trust.  Meet together, have open discussion about strengths and weaknesses, outline a plan for effectively working together and reach full agreement.  Only then will we achieve strong and lasting relationships at any level.  When we work together in this way, we have the greatest foundation for sharing the load.

QLECS Early Childhood Conference 2014 - "Share the Load"

As mentioned above, another successful conference is over! Within this edition of Children’s Chatter, you will find some stories and pictures of the day. In the busyness that is life these days, I want to thank everyone for coming and participating so well!

A special ‘surprise’ on the day, was the presentation of crosses to each (stand-alone) service, by LEQ’s Executive Director, Mrs Sue Kloeden. The crosses were purchased by LEA (Lutheran Education Australia) to commemorate 175 years of Lutheran Education and Care in Australia. For those who were unable to attend, your cross was collected by your Children’s Service’s manager and will be brought to the service on their next visit.

In this Newsletter you will find stories from our services. If you have something to share from your Service, we’d love to hear from you and share the wonderful things you do! Please email them to Fiona (fiona.williams@qlecs.org.au).

With every blessing

"There's no Place Like St James Kindy" - Hervey Bay

You may have noticed over the term, the front corner of the Kindergarten playground transforming.  With the help from some of our wonderful Kindy Parents, we have created a Wizard of Oz inspired sensory garden, including a yellow brick road which leads to our sensory garden.

All of the children have been involved in the preparation of the soil, planting the plants and learning about the different types of plants and sounds which make up our sensory garden.  To complete our garden, as the centre piece is our beautifully fashionable scarecrow!!

The Kindergarten entered our sensory garden into the Wide Bay Water School Spring Garden Competition.  The judging took place on the 5th September and we are proud to say that we received 2nd place in the Early Childhood Category, just beaten by 1 point !!

Despite the result, we are winners as we have a very special garden which the children can enjoy.  You are welcome to come and also discover,

‘There is no place like St James Kindy’

Thank you to all the families who donated their time, plants and resources to create a very special garden for the children to enjoy.

QLECS Early Childhood Conference 2014

The Annual QLECS Early Childhood Conference was held on 30 August 2014 and from all accounts was another outstanding success!  The Annual Conference is an important event on the QLECS calendar as it brings together all early childhood staff for a day of networking, learning and workshops allowing delegates to take home new things to their services.

The Lutheran Education Executive Director, Susan Kloeden presented crosses to services as a celebration of the 175th Anniversary of Lutheran Education in Australia.  These were bought by Lutheran Education Australia.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue Kloeden for attending and making this presentation and also to Lutheran Education Australia who bought these for services.  It is very much appreciated!
