Feedback themes

Thank you for the high number and broad range of comments on the short listed options.  Our team has had time to analyse your feedback and we appreciate the thought and care that has gone into your submissions.

Some key themes have emerged.  These include:  gradient/steepness; impact on local facilities and schools; travel time and time to construct.  Many submissions touched on the impacts any new road will have on the communities on Woodville and Ashhurst, in particular.

You commented on local connectivity, including additional bridging, and provided valuable information about local ground and weather conditions.  Many pointed to the risk of slips in certain areas – with one of our key focus areas being resilience, this will be a major consideration as we assess the short listed options.

We will confirm a preferred approach for the Manawatū Gorge alternative route by mid-December.

You can find more information about the project on our website at www.nzta.govt.nz/manawatu-gorge.

Management of alternative routes

The extensive maintenance on the Saddle Road has progressed well this week, with a number of successful repairs carried out and the road marking reinstated.  We will close the Saddle Road to westbound traffic again on Tuesday and Wednesday to complete more surfacing and road marking work. The westbound closures will be between the hours of 9am-3pm. Work sites will be under stop/go traffic management and we will provide daily updates on the electronic message boards. Please check out our Facebook page www.facebook.com/nztacni/ for the latest news and updates on the works.

Only regular maintenance work will be undertaken on the Pahīatua Track next week.  We are planning more extensive maintenance on the Pahīatua Track during the week starting 20th November.  This work will be under stop/go traffic control.

We continue to monitor the condition of both the Saddle Road and Pahīatua Track to quickly respond to any issues. We apologise for any delays you may experience on the alternative routes.

Work in Ashhurst

The new surfacing has been completed in Mulgrave Street between Cambridge and Salisbury.  We will now carry out inspections of the pavement in Mulgrave Street between Cambridge and Hillcrest.  There is quite a bit of work to be done in this area, and testing will be carried out first to ensure a successful end result.

Thank you for your feedback on the Worcester Street speed cushions. More speed cushions will be installed on the side streets between Salisbury Street and Cambridge Avenue.

Update on temporary bypass of Ashhurst & Woodville realignment

We continue to investigate the feasibility of options for the temporary bypass of Ashhurst. This work includes various tests to determine the suitability of possible options. We also continue to investigate the realignment options for Woodville. We appreciate both matters are front of mind for many of you and we will provide you with information as soon as there are new developments.
