FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 12, 2021 CONTACT: VICTIMS SPEAK: HIGHLIGHTING THE HYPOCRISY CAMPAIGN CALLS OUT REGENTS - VOLUME 3 Abuse Survivor Chuck Christian Demonstrates University of Michigan Regent Mark Bernstein's Blatant Hypocrisy Over the Handling of the Anderson Sexual Abuse Case ANN ARBOR - Former University of Michigan athletes, and sexual abuse victims, are taking aim at several Board of Regents members who have been hypocritical in their refusal to call for an investigation into the systemic breakdown of protocols that allowed for decades of sexual assault and rape by Dr. Robert Anderson, and the subsequent cover-up. Over the past 10 days, Spotlight Michigan released the first two videos in its "Highlighting the Hypocrisy" campaign, and featured former Michigan running backs Jarrod Bunch ('86-'90) and Jon Vaughn ('88-'90), using Regent Jordan Acker's own tweets to show how hypocritical his silence has been in recent months regarding Dr. Anderson and UM. Today, Spotlight Michigan is launching the third video in that campaign. Former Michigan tight end Chuck Christian ('77-'80), was forced to undergo painful and unnecessary rectal exams by Dr. Robert Anderson while a college athlete. In the video above, Christian highlights how Regent Mark Bernstein said one thing about helping to make things right for survivors of Anderson's rapes of young athletes while Bernstein was campaigning for the Board of Regents in 2020, and is now doing nothing to fulfill that campaign rhetoric. In the video above, Christian says: IN OCTOBER OF 2020, JUST 9 MONTHS AGO, WHILE CAMPAIGNING FOR HIS SEAT ON THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN BOARD OF REGENTS, MARK BERNSTEIN WAS INTERVIEWED BY MICHIGAN DAILY AND ASKED SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN AND DR. ROBERT ANDERSON. REPEATING HIS STANCE FROM HIS CAMPAIGN WEBSITE THAT SAID “OUR BIAS SHOLD BE TOWARDS THE VICTIMS, NOT THE INSTITUTION”, BERNSTEIN ANSWERED QUOTE -“It’s in the long-term interest of the institution to address these issues in a way that’s focused on making things right for the victims — for people who are harmed by the institution — because then you are preserving the integrity of the institution in the long run,” END QUOTE. SO REGENT BERNSTEIN, WHEN CAN WE EXPECT YOU TO MAKE THINGS *RIGHT* FOR THE APPROXIMATELY 850 VICTIMS OF DR. ANDERSON? WHEN WILL YOU MAKE THINGS RIGHT FOR THOSE OF US HARMED BY YOUR INSTITUTION? I’M FORMER UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN ATHLETE CHUCK CHRISTIAN AND I’M HIGHLIGHTING THE HYPOCRISY. Stay informed of the University of Michigan Regents' History of Hypocrisy at: https://umregenthypocrisy.com/ Spotlight Michigan is committed to exposing these crimes and providing a voice to the community of victims, families, friends, and University of Michigan alumni that demand accountability from the University for its failure to put students before predators. It is also imperative that protocols and procedures be updated and improved to ensure such systemic failures that allowed for both the abuse and the cover-up never happen again.
