Creative Partnerships welcomes readers to the third edition of CREATIVE COMMUNICATIONS! 

Last Fri Cairns Creative Crawl toured to seven of our local leading creative venues, read about the highlights and click on the link to visit our Crawl photo album. We welcome Daniel Wallwork (Wally) back to our team as coordinator of Beautiful Art Spaces and express a big thank you to Paul Barron for his great work (as usual) while filling in for Wally during the time he was away. We would also like to congratulate Wally on the opening of his exhibition Featherweight at Cairns Regional Gallery on show until 23 June 2013.

In two weeks we will be hosting the Arts and Cultural Community Lunch at Cultural Place, we hope to meet you for networking, a delicious lunch and music by Jordan Brodie as part of A-Venue Cairns' Showcase at Events program. Three guest attendees will share five minute presentations, read about their topics below.

Arts and Cultural Community Lunch Wed 22 May 2013

Arts and Cultural Community Lunch will be held in Dugong Lane at Cultural Place (94-98 Lake St, Cairns) from 12:30 - 2pm on Wed 22 May 2013. We extend an invitation to all people who are interested in arts and culture in Cairns to gather with like-minded people, to network, discuss your exciting projects, and explore collaborations. Enjoy lunch and music by Jordan Brodie as part of A-Venue Cairns' Showcase at Events program.

Three guest attendees will share five minute presentations; 
Roz Pappalardo is an arts worker, project manager and developer, songwriter, band manager, playwright, actor and traveller. Roz will be discussing the importance of connecting the dots in both a business and creative sense, necessary for sustainability in the arts.

Youth Arts Queensland (Brisbane) is a social profit company for the benefit of youth arts and cultural development in QLD. Imogene Shields, Creative Director, Youth Arts Queensland, is keen to connect (and re-connect) with you, to hear your ideas on how YAQ can best support the industry and young artists in Cairns, and to share YAQ’s exciting new direction.

Suzie Cray is your new ABC Open Local Producer. ABC Open is an online initiative publishing stories created by regional Australians with free workshops training people in digital literacy skills. Suzie is a veteran storyteller with 23 years in the television industry in various positions including manager, producer, director, camerawoman, editor, graphic designer and now trainer. Suzie would like to meet the Cairns community and detail ABC Open’s free media workshops she is planning to present in our local region.

Spotlight Photographers Program Applications Close 16 May 2013

Spotlight Photographers Program has been developed to give our Far North Queensland, young (15-30 year old) and emerging photographers the opportunity to develop and showcase their creative photographic skills.

Five successful photographers will exit the program with a $200 pay check and a small collection of editorial music photographs of local A-Venue Cairns musicians and bands, these images could be added to the photographers' portfolio.

It is expected that applicants will have experience in using a digital SLR, shooting on manual, and the ability to creatively and technically capture high quality digital photographs. Photographers are required to have appropriate equipment to capture high quality files including .RAW files and have access to editing software to creatively present final images.

Applications for the Spotlight Photographers Program close 5pm NEXT Thurs 16 May 2013.

Cairns Creative Crawl Highlights and Photo Album

The first 2013 Cairns Creative Crawl was held last Fri, the Crawl is a popular open-top-double-decker bus tour. 110 Crawlers are transported in style to enjoy multi arts; music; visual arts; creative shopping; food and drinks at leading Cairns creative venues. Rebecca Edwards our Crawl Coordinator takes us through the highlights.

Crawlers met at Centre of Contemporary Arts and enjoyed a cool bevvy from number 96 bar and the KickArts Contemporary Arts gallery spaces and shop. The darling of the Cairns local music scene, Louarde performed as part of A-Venue Cairns' Showcase at Events program and Centre of Contemporary Arts resident dance company Phluxus2 Dance Collective wowed the audience. 

The bus arrived at 5:45pm, we clambered aboard and toured to UMI Arts; As You Like It Hair Gallery; Cairns Regional Gallery; Red Chair Gallery; Cell Art Space; and C.1907 Contemporary Artspace. Read the full highlights blog

Cairns Festival Grand Parade | Carnival on Collins Applications

Entries now open for Cairns’ biggest community event of the year – the Cairns Festival Grand Parade.

Community groups, organisations and businesses are invited to enter a float in the parade, which will take place on Sat 24 August 2013. The festival theme is Celebrating Paradise and judges will be looking for floats that best reflect this theme. Please visit the Cairns Festival website to apply online. Entries close 31 July 2013. 

Cairns Festival is also accepting stallholders' applications for Cairns Festival's closing event Carnival on Collins on Sun 1 Sept 2013. Stallholders wishing to sell food, plants, art & craft and sustainable living goods & services are invited to apply for stalls at this year's Carnival on Collins. Entries close 15 July 2013.
