Nominations are now open for the 2017 EWA Annual Awards!

If you know someone that deserves recognition for their success or contribution to the WA equestrian community, nominate them for an Award and they could be selected as one of the finalists recognised at the EWA Awards Night being held 2 February 2018.

SEC COMMUNITY FORUM

EWA, with the support of the City of Swan, will be holding a Community Engagement Forum at 6:30pm Monday 27 November at the State Equestrian Centre to discuss the venue and its place in the local community.

This is an opportunity for users of the SEC, as well as the general public, to learn more about the centre and assist in ensuring it has a bright and sustainable future for many years to come. MORE

EWA ANNUAL ELECTIONS VOTING OPEN

An election is taking place for the available EWA Board and Dressage WA Committee positions due to the number of nominations received being greater than the positions vacant.

All EWA members should have received an email with information on how to vote for their preferred Board candidate. Members who identified as Dressage supporters on their membership application will also receive a second email to vote for the Dressage Committee. If you haven’t received the email(s), please check your junk folder or contact EWA.

Voting closes 5:00pm Tuesday 21 November. Remember, your vote counts!

EA AGM & BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT

The Equestrian Australia Annual General Meeting was held in Sydney last Thursday, bringing together EA’s state branch members for an annual review of the organisation’s strategic direction. Changes to the Board have also occurred, with Gillian Rolton stepping down, and two new Directors - Suzanne Doyle and Colin Chantler - being appointed. MORE

UPDATE TO MEASURING STEWARD WORKBOOK

Following a review by the Branch Chief Measurers, the Measuring Steward Workbook has been updated. This is in part due to the 1.1.18 Sporting rule changes covering both Show Horse and Dressage.

All Measurers currently have an expiry date set to 31/3/18. Attendance at an EA State Measuring Steward Refresher course will be required prior to this date in order to be maintained on current lists. MORE

JUMPING FUNDING SUPPORT APPLICATIONS OPEN SOON

Applications for Round 2 of Jumping Funding Support will be opening on 11 November. A share of $4000 is available to La Noir Saddleworld Jumping Open, Recognition and Youth Squad horse rider combinations. Rebates of up to $400 per horse can be claimed as reimbursements on entries for eligible classes. MORE

LONE JOERGENSEN CLINIC 14-16 NOVEMBER

Dressage High Performance Coach Lone Joergensen is conducting a clinic 14-16 November at the State Equestrian Centre with lessons still available on the 14th and 15th. Lessons start at $150 for State Squad athletes. Email Sara Botten SaraBotten@equestrianwa.org.au to register.

COACHING FAST TRACK PROGRAM FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE ATHLETES 

EWA is currently seeking expressions of interest from La Noir Saddleworld High Performance Athletes to complete their Equestrian Coaching (previously NCAS) certificates. A limited number of positions will be available to Athletes 18 years of age and over to complete their Introductory and Level 1 coaching certificates via a Fast Track program delivered over summer 2017/2018. MASTERS OF DRESSAGE RETURNS TO SEC THIS WEEKEND

FEI 5*Judge Stephen Clarke is returning to the State Equestrian Centre this weekend and he is looking forward to once again working with WA's Dressage community. Riders, coaches, trainers, judges and all dressage lovers are invited to come along and get involved.

Saturday 11 November 6:30-9:30pm - Masterclass featuring Freestyle to Music
Stephen is keen to show how music and choreography can influence the performance of the horse. It promises to be a great night out. There will be beautiful horses and top entertainment including a VIP dinner, food vans, bar etc.

Sunday 12 November 10:00am-12:00pm - Dressage Symposium
This is a must for all Dressage enthusiasts. Stephen will work through the levels with a variety of horses and make commentary on test riding to help the rider make improvements. He will also show how the correct training enables the horse to reach its potential. Q&A sessions will be included with a panel of experts.

2018 RE-ACCREDITATION SHOW HORSE & DRESSAGE JUDGES

Equestrian Australia has issued a reminder to EA Show Horse and Dressage Judges that re-accreditations take place every 3 years and are due 31st March 2018.

Important dates:

  • Mid-February 2018: Reaccreditation options information and forms will be available
  • 1 March: Acceptance of forms will open
  • 31 March: Closing date

As part of the re-accreditation process, all officials must attend an Update (Refresher) seminar. These seminars include discussions on rule changes, current discipline-specific items that impact on equipment, safety, risk management etc., as well as meeting Judging appointment requirements. MORE

SAMMI TAKES ON TAIPEI

Congratulations to EWA La Noir Saddleworld High Performance athlete, Samantha Lamont (right), who achieved some great results on her borrowed horse 'Pegasus' at the CSIJ-B this week in Taipei.

Samantha was chosen by Equestrian Australia from more than 60 applicants and was accompanied by David Lamont as Chef d’Equipe. Sammi and Pegasus produced a clear round in the team competition to finish 2nd, and had a rail down in the first phase of the Individual for a 9th place finish in a strong field of 24 riders.

STATE VAULTING COMPETITION ENTRIES OPEN

It's that time of year again! Entries have now officially opened for the 2nd WA State Vaulting Competition to be held 2 December at the State Equestrian Centre. This year, Vaulting WA are thrilled to welcome Level 3 judge Chris Wicks from Canberra, along with local judges Paula Patricelli and Carol Brice. Entries available here.

CALLING FOR 2018-19 NOMINATIONS TO THE EA VAULTING COMMITTEE

The Equestrian Australia Vaulting Committee has three positions up for nomination. Committee member Lyn Lynch has served one term and is eligible to re-nominate, however Tony Richardson finishes his sixth year on the committee and is required to step down for one year. The final vacancy is open due to Gail Beatie standing down from the position of Chair earlier this year. All vacancies are for a 2-year term from 1 January 2018. MORE
