In addition to looking back at the past 50 years worth celebrating, Selkirk College continues to forge ahead with its eyes on a strong future. As we continue to prepare for our celebration that takes us Through the Decades, such is the theme of our Gala event, we also look ahead to the journey that continues.

Selkirk College Grad Secures Big Scholarship

Selkirk College helps launch the future for students of all ages, from near and afar. Rossland Secondary School graduate Maddie Snelgrove went on to start her post-secondary education at the local college and embraced campus life with gusto. This spring, the West Kootenay native graduated from the School of University Arts & Sciences and soon after learned she'd earned herself a $12,000 entrance scholarship for the Urbanism Program, a unique undergraduate program in Architecture at Carleton University. Selkirk College’s two chemistry labs saw a major upgrade this year. With $875,000 invested in the labs that dated back to the original construction of the college, they offer a more inviting learning environment with enhanced safety and capacity for a growing student body.

Leaders in Sustainability Earning Silver Star Rating

Selkirk College continues to lead in the achievement of sustainability and has recently earned a STARS silver rating for its commendable efforts. The global Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education has praised the local institution for its ongoing work. Selkirk College has earned a STARS silver rating in recognition of its efforts to achieve greater sustainability from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).

Selkirk College has secured three grants from the Federal Government for research and innovation projects. Two of the team leaders on the projects include Selkirk Geospatial Research Coordinator Ian Parfitt (left) and Regional Innovation Chair Terri MacDonald (right).

Federal Innovation Funding to Benefit Selkirk College

Federal funding will provide $603,430 to Selkirk College projects with the resources required to further advance innovative collaborative research projects in partnership with community organizations and local businesses. Out of 35 projects approved at institutions across the country, Selkirk College secured three grants proving the institution can stand up to stiff competition. Read on...

50 Years of Athletics at Selkirk College

As part of the Selkirk College 50th Anniversary celebration, there are several reunions planned. One of these get-togethers is being organized by the faculty who served learners over the first five years of the college (1966 to 1971).

Pioneer Faculty Reunion Guest List Grows

Four new guests are making the journey to the West Kootenay for Homecoming Weekend with plans of attending a reunion of Selkirk College faculty who taught during the first five years. The guest list includes English Faculty members such as Fred Wah, Poet Laureate and Officer in the Order of Canada. Find out more about planned reunions and how to gather your own crew.
