SPOTLIGHT MICHIGAN APPLAUDS BRAVE VICTIMS WHO SHARED HEINOUS ACCOUNTS OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE BY UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN TEAM PHYSICIAN “What do I want out of this? That no one even considers doing this to another kid in college,” said Schembechler. ANN ARBOR - Today Spotlight Michigan released the following statement in response to the press conference with Matt Schembechler, Gilvanni Johnson, and Daniel Kwiatkowski. Schembechler (son of late coach Bo Schembechler), Johnson (UM Wide Receiver from 1982-1986), and Kwiatkowski (UM Offensive Tackle from 1977-1979) detailed the rape, sexual assault, and sexual abuse suffered at the hands of University of Michigan team physician Dr. Robert Anderson, and asserted that Head Coach Bo Schembechler was aware of the criminal acts. In response, Spotlight Michigan Spokesperson Autria Lindsay issued the following statement: "It's heartbreaking to hear from these men the abuse they were subjected to by an institution they should have been able to trust. We applaud their bravery in coming forward and recounting these atrocious acts. What's still appalling is how the University has yet to take any responsibility for knowingly allowing this to continue for nearly four decades. University officials continue to blame a dead doctor while assuming zero accountability for their own protection of this predator. It's time for the Board of Regents to actually hear these men and what they've endured, give them the justice they deserve, and make sure such failures that allowed for both the abuse and the cover-up never happen again." ### Spotlight Michigan is committed to exposing these crimes and providing a voice to the community of victims, families, friends, and University of Michigan alumni that demand accountability from the University for its failure to put students before predators. It is also imperative that protocols and procedures be updated and improved to ensure such systemic failures that allowed for both the abuse and the cover-up never happen again.
