Workshop – Using Arts and Music to connect with learning and Teaching in Diverse Classrooms
This workshop will focus on promoting learning and teaching within diverse classrooms. It will focus particularly on using music and the arts which provide a rich context for learning, to connect with all learners, however, specific links will be made to learners within ethnically and culturally diverse classrooms. Using the Kodály Approach to teaching music, with its inclusive practise and some of the cleverest pedagogy you'll ever see, the workshop will highlight how this be applied to other areas of the curriculum. Considering the ‘curriculum challenge’ the workshop will offer innovative ideas such as the use specific games and sequences designed by music & neuroscience researchers to help with literacy, synthetic phonics and maths. The workshop aims to broaden thinking around curriculum development and critically examine current approaches to curriculum
development.

Schools have a vital role to play in promoting the wellbeing of all pupils. Many factors can contribute to mental health issues which can occur at any time during school life and beyond. Early intervention is key - prevention, spotting early warning signs, and supporting good mental health and wellbeing for all children and young people can be embedded in school policy and practice. This workshop explores a range of practical approaches and showcase best practice from schools leading in this area. You will be able to take away practical ideas to support the mental health and wellbeing of pupils in schools.

It will highlight some of the theories of autism as well as provide practical knowledge and ideas to help teachers better meet the needs of pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in the classroom. Workshop – Behaviour - Inclusion / Exclusion
This workshop will present interactive case studies and a Q@A session where you can ask those unaskable questions about what happens when it all goes wrong! It will show the reality of life for pupils excluded from mainstream education. Using real life examples, we will paint the true picture of life for students who don’t fit the mould, warts and all! This seminar will be delivered by two current PRU Practitioners who, between them, have over thirty years’ experience in PRU’s and BESD Special schools, coupled with many years’ experience of mainstream education. Even then each day comes as a surprise to them!
Workshop – Assessment and Pupil Progress
The withdrawal of National Curriculum (NC) Levels has led to changed assessment practices in schools for assessing and monitoring pupil progress. The use of data to inform assessment practice has also increased. Assessment for formative purposes continues to play a central role in gauging pupil progress as it creates opportunity for meaningful feedback, provides a useful insight about pupils’ learning and their ability to apply that learning to a range of contexts. Teachers will also need to know which assessment evidence would indicate mastery of a topic. This workshop will give you as an NQT / RQT the confidence to use different strategies and ideas to enable effective Assessment for Learning thereby improving pupil progression.
Working with Parents
The session will explore the impact of effective parent partnerships on the child, the parent, the school and the community. It will begin by asking why we need to build these partnerships. The session will then examine how partnerships can be developed on a practical level in schools. The final section will look at possible barriers to creating effective partnerships, focusing on a number of case studies.
Workshop – NQT next steps
This workshop engages you in thinking through your journey as NQT and consider what lies ahead. It raises awareness about working towards leadership roles, what is involved, what are the expectations and ways forward into middle leadership.
