EWA has recently come to question the validity of the categories of Domestic Athlete of the Year and Domestic Horse of the Year for the Equestrian Australia (EA) Awards because they appear to exclude the representation of Show Horse athletes and horses. DEMO HORSE WANTED

EWA are seeking a horse with a history of gastrointestinal ulcers to be used for a gastroscopy demonstration at an educational seminar with Ascot Vets on the evening of 17 April at the State Equestrian Centre. The horse needs to be quiet and willing to go into a crush and have a gastrointestinal tube inserted. Please email rhiannon.bealey@equestrianwa.org.au if you can help.

FEI OFFICIALS CODE OF CONDUCT UPDATED

The FEI Officials Code of Conduct has been updated and took effect on 1 January 2018. FEI Officials are requested to destroy any copies you may hold dated prior to this and review the updated Appendix H of the FEI General Regulations (from pg. 56). There is no need to sign or acknowledge receipt of the document, but please be aware that as an Official, you are bound to the Code, so you need to be familiar and understand the content contained within.

FINAL REMINDER TO SHOW HORSE & DRESSAGE JUDGES

A final reminder that EA National Judges in Show Horse and Dressage are currently due to submit re-accreditation paperwork. This occurs every three years and for these officials, paperwork must be submitted by 31 March 2018, after which time names of non-complying officials will drop off the Officials Search until this work is complete. EA DRESSAGE JUDGES SEMINAR: PRELIM (G) & NOVICE (F)

Date/Time: 7 April 2018, 8:30am-4:00pm
Location: State Equestrian Centre
Cost: G/F Level Judge - Free, General Admission - $30, Trainee Judges - $20

This seminar will cover the first two levels of Dressage judging and will feature horses showing Preliminary and Novice work. Presenter Gill Botten will cover:

  • The role of the Dressage Judge
  • The Training Scale and how it relates to the progression within each test level
  • The collective marks and comments including a special section on judging the Junior and Youth riders
  • The progression from Preliminary to Novice level
  • What the judge looking for in test riding

Judges, riders and coaches all welcome. Also suitable for Pony Club, ARCA, Eventing and Interschool etc. Please bring own lunch (no food heating facilities) or local shops open. Morning and afternoon tea provided.

La Noir Saddleworld High Performance is excited to present a High Performance clinic with Lone Jorgensen. Lone is a Dual Olympian and Elite dressage coach and regularly works with High Performance riders to success. Lone will also be presenting a Masterclass open to all dressage enthusiasts at 7:00pm on Saturday 21 April at the State Equestrian Centre. EWA would like to thank Anna Latto of Anna Latto Equestrian for hosting Lone for this clinic.

NATIONAL EVENTING RULE CHANGES

The EA Board have approved changes to the National Eventing Rules in relation to MER’s (Minimum Eligibility Requirements) and age of horses. These rules will come into effect immediately as they relate to safety and horse welfare within the sport. MORE

FRANGIBLE DEVICE & RISK MANAGEMENT

Date/Time: 30 March, 3:00pm-6:00pm
Location: State Equestrian Centre, Classroom on President's Lawn
Cost: $20

This seminar will cover cross country construction for improved risk management and safety, covering the types of obstacles that now require frangible devices, the different types of devices and their correct installation, including a review of cross-country guidelines and rules. Course presenters are Geoff Sinclair 3*/4* Technical Delegate and FEI Risk Management Officer and John Nicholson FEI 3*/4* XC Course Designer.
