Western Business Leaders - COVID-19 Update #8 - Bringing Energy to our Recovery Bringing The West Back To Its Vibrant BestHello, It's been fantastic to hear from many of our businesses as you re-opened your doors and welcomed back our community. Our Western Business Leaders Taskforce reached out to many of you to ensure support is delivered where it is needed most, drives our recovery and helps your businesses thrive again. Our regular enewsletter pulls in the many resources and opportunities available to help you recover, reset and re-imagine your business. We are also pleased to welcome back opportunities to network and hear from other businesses at future events. How Council Can Support In tough times it's important to work together as a community to support each other. Therefore the Western Business Leaders (WBL) Taskforce was established by the Western Alliance of Councils (Cities of Charles Sturt, Holdfast Bay, Port Adelaide Enfield & West Torrens) in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The individual Councils will continue to work on a range of initiatives that they can implement to support business through this uncertain time. Our Mayors from each of the Councils have recorded a personal video message on the support currently available for your business. Find out how your Council can help you: Welcome to the City of Charles Sturt has created a dedicated Facebook business page so that you as a local business owner can find and share information, provide and seek support and feel more connected with other local businesses. Support Creative Cities Program The Praxis Artspace is a contemporary art gallery and artist studios located in the heart of Bowden. As COVID-19 restrictions were put in place, Praxis had to close its doors and re-think how the Gallery could continue to support artists and share art with their audiences. With the gallery closed, Praxis shifted to presenting artwork online showcasing an archive of all the previous exhibitions, presenting new exhibitions online, running an art-at-home campaign, and increasing the gallery's social media engagement. Praxis also continues to support their studio artists who work out of the Praxis Studios adjacent to the gallery. The Arts play a vital role in our community, however, it has become increasingly important for art organisations to shift the ways in which they operate. Praxis have taken this in their stride through championing their online presence, more recently taking advantage of the City of Charles Sturt Creative Cities Program: The Creative Cities Program aims to support local artists and arts organisation targeting activities that aid community recovery and enhance community wellbeing after a significant disruption to our cultural life.

Can You Support a Local Trainee? If you can it’s never been easier and current incentives make this the perfect time to bolster or re-build your workforce. Taking on a trainee can enhance your skill set and play a direct part in reducing local youth unemployment. “Employing a trainee or apprentice gives your business the opportunity to develop your own talent pool. Coaching and mentoring a young person is not only personally rewarding, it makes great business sense too. Having a trainee on the team facilitates workforce skill development and allows you to build a team with the shared work ethic and values unique to your organisation” Surfacing Contractors Australia, based in Hindmarsh, have recently taken on three trainees through Maxima, benefiting from the additional incentives available. The trainees have brought a range of existing skills, including administration, horticulture and concreting: “We have been extremely happy with the calibre of these trainees, they have hit the ground running and are really adding value to our operations. It’s been particularly good to have trainees, with experience who are happy to jump in and have a go. They’re not
only enthusiastic but also adaptable and versatile and are genuinely making a difference. The initiative has enabled us to take on new staff in a time which would have otherwise been too challenging” The scheme ends August 31. |
