Live Music with
Rob Reich Quintet "Swings Left"
Join us for a night of dancing to Rob Reich Quintet "Swings Left"! Rob Reich Quintet “Swings Left” plays swing music for dancers. Inspired by the Benny Goodman groups of the late 1930s with electric guitarist Charlie Christian, “Swings Left” takes off from there, featuring classic arrangements made popular by Goodman, Ellington, Basie and others. Their swinging sound combines hot rhythm with a cool sensibility.

We will start with the basics, from zero dance experience on up, and get you swinging around the dance floor in no time! This is a progressive class; show up on the first week to get maximum benefit. Swingout: Focus on Footwork Styling The mother move of Lindy hop, the swing out! When you add cool footwork and breaks to counts 7,8,1, and 2, the swingout becomes a lean mean awesome machine. Whether you’re a lead or follow, learn the secrets to connecting well with your partner while doing fun footwork, and expand your swingout repertoire to be more musical with your dancing! PRE-REQUISITES: Level 1A-D; twice through recommended. Execute a swingout, lindy circle, charleston and
6-count moves and transition between them in open and closed positions. No partner required, just bring your enthusiasm!
Level 3 (7:15pm - 8:15pm)
w/ Lori & TBA
Musicality through Footwork and Styling What does it mean to be musical? What does it mean to incorporate musicality into your own body? And how can you do any of that without totally throwing off your partner? This lesson focuses on developing a responsiveness to music using unusual patterns and rhythms that will challenge your connection, balance, and ear for improvisational jazz. PRE-REQUISITES: At least nine consecutive months of Level 1 and Level 2 including one full year of social dance, or discuss your eligibility with instructors. Under-qualified students will be asked to transfer to Level 2 in order to strengthen their fundamentals.
Elective (8:15pm - 9:15pm)
w/ Joy & Doug
Balboa: Out and In Variations and Extensions End your year with a few new tricks, learn new variations both independent and partnered that will stretch your experience with out and ins. PRE-REQUISITES: Beg-int Balboa, comfortable with out and ins and crossovers. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!
Next Week: White-Out Party
The idea behind the WHITE OUT party is simple: celebrate the snow! And since we don't get snow outside here, we bring it inside in the form of white clothes. So, make sure to wear something WHITE for the dance, take a picture in our photo booth, and celebrate another year coming to an end with WNH family! We'll also have a performance by Double or Nothing!
