Welcome to the White Ribbon Newsletter No Images? Click here Dear White Ribbon Supporter Welcome to our regular newsletter from White Ribbon HQ. Right now we're wrapping up the reporting from the 2017 November Campaign. If you took part in the online survey, thank you. We had over 750 replies that shared your experiences of the campaign and rated what you thought of various elements of the November campaign. Next month we should be in a position to talk about the 2018 Campaign which builds upon our previous Respectful Relationship Campaigns. One clear piece of feedback we've heard is that communities want to know what we are planning as early as possible. While we don't have future funding confirmed just yet, we are pushing ahead with the organisation of the 2018 campaign including the White Ribbon Ride. If you would like these anti-violence champions to visit your community please let us know. Once again thank you for your support and the work that so many of you undertake. Rob McCann Congratulations Anna CampbellAnna Campbell, Global CEO of FAB Group, joins White Ribbon as our first female Ambassador. Anna held the role of Chief People Officer of The Warehouse Group until November last year. During her time at the Group, The Warehouse became the first New Zealand employer to gain White Ribbon accreditation. Anna’s role as an ambassador will be to encourage other businesses to seek White Ribbon Business Accreditation. “As a mother of three boys, I’m acutely aware of the importance of raising them to understand what good relationships are and to be respectful men. However, New Zealand companies also need to play their role. Family violence has serious and devastating effects in New Zealand. For employers, it can impact your team’s ability to bring their best selves to work. So, I encourage employers to support their team whether they’re impacted by violence or want to stop using violence.” Anna believes New Zealand is one of the best countries in the world at hurting the people we love, and we all need to get involved to solve this problem. Recently Anna presented at the Corporate Health and Wellbeing Summit in Auckland NZ. Pragmatism, creative problem solving and having the courage to do the right thing for your people and customers are close to Anna’s heart. Anna was the first New Zealander to be awarded an Asia- Pacific Conscious Business Leadership award. The key takeouts from Anna presentation at the Corporate Health and Wellbeing Summit were: family violence doesn’t discriminate, confidentiality is key, and training is essential. But most importantly, it’s time to start the difficult conversation and be part of the solution. The White Ribbon RideThe White Ribbon Ride consists of groups of motorcyclists travelling around the country to promote White Ribbon messages to a range of communities. The rides are six to nine days’ duration, and occur from mid-November each year, during the lead-up to White Ribbon Day. The rides are supported by the NZDF with support vehicles, staff, and by an array of community groups. The noise, spectacle and tough outward image of the riders captures the attention of audiences as they deliver the campaign’s key messages. Currently three White Ribbon rides are undertaken each year, each with its own itinerary that enables riders to visit a range of communities. If you would like the White Ribbon Riders to visit your community, download the Registration of Interest Form now. Kelly is married to White Ribbon Rider Peter Porter and their daughter Ara has participated in the White Ribbon Ride. The White Ribbon Riders were out in force at this year's Creek Fest in Porirua. White Ribbon Ambassador Richie Hardcore has been speaking to a range of schools on issues such as pornography and respectful relationships. In South Auckland we have teamed up with the Salvation Army to develop a Youth Accreditation Scheme, so that students can become Student White Ribbon Ambassadors. "I've been reading your articles for a while now as they have helped me gain strength. My ex-husband was found guilty yesterday of male assaults female from October last year. I have a white ribbon with "Stand up" tattooed on my arm... throughout my testimony I kept rubbing it for support. Thank you so much for everything you do from one survivor of years of emotional and physical abuse." |
