Weekly Update

Issue 8: 26 February, 2021

Dear Partners

Welcome to the latest weekly update from Tropical Fruit Direct.

The outlook for production in North Queensland across a range of categories has started to improve, with better weather conditions.  We anticipate better overall production levels and fruit size, particularly for papaya, pawpaw and passionfruit.  We are also seeing new category lines coming online, with longans, rambutans and mangosteens now being available in increasing numbers.  The timing could not be better as we approach the busy Easter trading period.

Behind the scenes, we are actively engaged with our key growing partners to explore opportunities to secure more consistent levels of production across a number of key categories over the next few years.  This involves partnerships around farm acquisition, plant production and supply, joint ventures and marketing.  This partnership model has already yielded impress results in a number of categories.  For example, in the last financial year we saw household penetration for papaya increase from 10% to 18%, with a 32% increase in overall retail sales.

As always, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like additional information.

Best wishes, Steve
