Author and Illustrator Presentation Coming on Friday, September 30th

Beaches Episcopal School is proud to offer an Author and Illustrator Presentation Presentation for students in grades PreK4 through sixth grade on Friday, Sept. 30th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in Hope Hall. Two wonderful authors and an illustrator will speak to our students during this special event!

This presentation ties in perfectly with our theme this year of "Readers are Leaders!" We hope it will engage our students to discover how writing skills they are learning in school apply to the real world. The goal of this event is to awaken a desire in our students to not only love reading, but to also ignite a passion to utilize language and art to express themselves.

Guests will include Jane R. Wood, an author who uses mystery, adventure, and kids' natural love of animals to capture the imagination of young readers while also teaching them about the history of places such as St. Augustine, Amelia Island, the St. Johns River, Savannah, and Boston. She will share photographs and personal anecdotes about the people, places, and animals featured in her books.

Also presenting to the children will be Mark W. Adams, illustrator, and Linda Smigaj, author, whose "Fly on the Wall Series" brings history to life in a third person perspective that captures the attention of children and helps them feel as though they are part of the story.

Note: Authors will have books available for purchase after the presentation.

Parents, we encourage you to partner with us in fostering a love of reading in your family. Books take us places, move us, and inform our hearts and minds. Elementary school is where that foundation is established, and we are excited to stand with you so that our young readers become leaders in and out of the classroom.

The Beaches Episcopal School Starfish Fund Annual Giving Campaign officially begins on October 1st and will run through December 31, 2016. Everyone will be receiving a letter with a pledge card over the weekend from our Campaign Chairs, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Formoso, whose children are in first grade and PreK3. If you prefer, you may also donate online.

This year's Starfish Fund will be used responsibly for...

  • professional development
  • technology upgrades
  • classroom supplies
  • enhanced curriculum
  • facility improvements

Our goal this year is $65,000 and 100% participation from our families. To “sweeten” the incentive, Martha Milton has agreed to take each homebase class who reaches 100% parent participation during the campaign to Sweet Frog for an ice cream party!

We thank you in advance for support and if you have any questions please email Stacy Nash, Director of Development, or call her at (904) 246-2466 ext 112.
