Steve Higgs did us proud with an exceptional dinner. Steve - we really appreciate all you do for these special occasions. It means a great deal to the club! The Sea Scouts served the meal and did so flawlessly.

Sequoia had the annual Past Commodores dinner on Saturday. This is a great tradition and an evening not to be missed. This year was outstanding. We had a great turn out and the 16 Past Commodores were joined by the flag, directors and many members. We had apologies from those who were traveling but took the time to write a short email and it was great to hear from them as well.

I looked up the collective noun for Commodores and Thesaurus is missing this one, so here goes - a class of commodores, a fleet of commodores?  I go with a Fleet of Commodores.

One of the fun aspects of this evening is tradition asks each Past Commodore to tell an anecdote from their year. We were lucky to hear a great set of stories, memories and just magic moments for the evening. Also everyone said their piece positively and briefly so Rick 'the hook' Gilmore, although poised for action, had a relaxed evening. Our Rear Commodore had the tough job of selecting the best anecdote of the evening. Dan Lockwood did a masterful job of 'roasting' each one and awarded the honor to John Mattis.

It was a memorable evening and a privilege to be a part of it. Sequoia Yacht Club is going from strength to strength and much of that success is built off a great flag over many years. Thank you to all the Past Commodores for everything you did and do for the club - and a sincere best of luck to the future Commodores!

Peter - your Commodore

Don't miss this Friday's General Meeting and DID. Come on down and see your friends and hear what's new at the club. So much happening we can hardly fit it all into the Blast. Also we will be having several second readings and you can be there to welcome these new members. Rumor has it that one of these members may actually be member number 1000. Wow!

Also Lina is cooking up a special Italian meal with pasta and a marinara sauce. Did you know that marinara means "sailor" in Italian (sailor style of tomato sauce)?  Just our kind of sauce...
