New Learning Specialist Added to BES Faculty in January 2020We are pleased to welcome the addition of a part-time learning specialist to our team! Next week, Emma Newton will begin working with students within the classroom setting in the areas of reading/language arts and math, primarily in the first through fifth grades. Emma graduated from Wake Forest University with a major in English and a minor in Secondary Education. During her time at Wake Forest, she served as a student teacher in both high school and elementary school environments. Emma is currently a private tutor who is trained in the Wilson Foundations, Lindamood Bell, and Orton Gillingham methods of instruction, all of which provide teachers with specific tools to develop students’ language and literacy skills. We plan to add two learning specialists to our team next school year; one who will serve in grades 3-6 and one who will serve in Pre-K through grade 2. These faculty members will work with the classroom teachers in the classroom setting to provide students with both support and enrichment as needed. They will also assist teachers in determining and implementing resources and materials to best serve all of our students, and they will help us to differentiate instruction and provide more small group and individualized instruction. Key Dates Released for 2020-2021 School YearWe are excited to share Key Dates for the 2020-2021 School Year so that our families can begin making plans. Additional events and dates will be added over time, and the most up-to-date calendar will be our online Calendar of Events available through the BES website. BES Offers Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities for the 2020 BES Parent Social and Athletic ProgramsOver the years, we have been blessed with tremendous support from a variety of corporate sponsors, and we thank all who have given so generously. To better serve our community more effectively, we have implemented new guidelines for corporate sponsorships. Please look at the BES Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities for the 2020 Parent Social and Athletic Programs. This will be sent home in backpacks today as well. The sponsorships included in this package will end in June of 2020 so that we can align our sponsorship offerings with the academic year. With the merger of BES and ESJ, the BES Corporate Sponsor program will be offered as part of ESJ’s Corporate Partner program, which operates July 1 to June 30. Sponsorship dollars for BES events will be designated for the BES campus as always, but sponsors will be able to gain exposure to the entire Episcopal School of Jacksonville community if they wish. Because of the change to an academic year program, the following sponsorships will be available after the merger with Episcopal School of Jacksonville is complete:
Look for the comprehensive list of ESJ sponsorship opportunities to be mailed in July. Contact Stacy Nash in the Development Office with any questions or to become a sponsor for this coming year. Thank you for your continued support of BES! Security Upgrade at BES Starting This WeekWe are pleased to announce that BES has recruited off-duty JSO police officers who have already begun working with us this week. There is no immediate concern at all; we have hired the officers to provide additional security for our school community. The safety of our students is a top priority and we feel it will be helpful to have professional police officers on campus to complement our current security measures. You can expect to see the officers in full uniform and a police cruiser parked near campus. We currently have two officers available to us who will serve as our lead officers. The Director of Security at ESJ is currently seeking additional officers to be present on the days when neither of our lead officers is available. Please join us in welcoming the officers to our community!
