Term 3 at Regent College has been full of many highlights, including some below.

Pre-Primary B Pizza Sale Fundraiser

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the Pre-Primary B (PPB) Pizza Sale to help PPB raise funds to make care packages for homeless people in our community.
With your help PPB raised over $1,400 and made 60 care package bags for homeless people in our community.

Earlier this term the PPB class were discussing the ideas of special places and why homes are important and how we can look after our homes.

Our friend Fraser mentioned people who do not have homes are called homeless and he shared a story about how he has helped homeless people before by giving them food, socks and shampoo. This story from Fraser sparked a passionate discussion about what the students had previously done to help poor people. The class thought of many ways that as a class they could together help the homeless people of Perth.

The students wrote letters to Mr Nicholls to ask permission to host a pizza sale to sell pizza to the students and staff at Regent College to use the profits to buy food and warm clothing for the homeless people in our community.
We were delighted that Mr Nicholls gave us a big YES to go ahead with the sale.

The PPB students with the help of some Year 6's designed posters and put them around the school inviting Students and Staff to be part of the pizza sale.

In the lead up to the sale, PPB students completed extra chores at home to raise money to purchase pizzas.

Thank you to Domino's Pizza Victoria Park for kindly selling the pizza's at a generous discount to PPB and to Woolworths Victoria Park for donating the juice boxes!

Friday 10th September then came around and it was Pizza Sale Day! The PPB class with the help of their Teachers and Parent Volunteers set out tables and decorated the undercover area ready for the pizza sale.

The PPB students (with the help of Year 6's and Parent Volunteers) sold over 600 slices of pizza during the sale and raised over $1,400! In addition to this, the Lunch Box delivery that services the College on Tuesdays and Fridays service pledged 10% of their sales for the day toward the fundraiser too! Overall, the pizza sale was a great success!

The following week, using the proceeds made from the pizza sale and some extra donations from families, the Teachers purchased a range of care items ready to be put into care packages. PPB students spent a morning putting the care packages together and wrote cards to the recipients.

On Friday 17th September, Paul from Dream Centre Perth visited the PPB class and brought the 'Dream Van' to Regent College, ready to be packed full of the 60 care packages the PPB class put together.

It was amazing to witness PPB moved by compassion to act in this way and give generously to others. We are all so proud of you PPB!

Book Week at Regent College

This term the College celebrated Book Week with a Dress Up Day and Book Fair.

Dress Up Day
Staff and Students in Kindergarten - Year 6 dressed up in their favourite book characters.

Book Fair
Over 60 students in Year 3 - 6 participated in running their own bookstall and sold second-hand books and homemade bookmarks to students in Year 1 - 6. Students were responsible for sourcing their own secondhand books from home, designing and setting up their own storefront, setting prices for the books, and selling them on the day. After the Book Fair, students were invited to donate their leftover books to Afghanistani children who recently arrived in Perth. The students were incredibly generous and donated all of their remaining books.

Thank you to all the Families who lent to College tables and helped on the day.

NOAH - The Remix

Term 3 ended with 'NOAH - the Remix', a fantastic concert performed by Pre-Primary to Year 6 students.

Throughout Term 3, students learnt different artistic routines and performed them on stage at Riverview Church in front of over 1,000 family members and friends.

Fathering Project: Bunnings Event

This Term the Fathering Project Dads Group at Regent College organised an event at Bunnings Warehouse for Dad's and Kids.

Kids enjoyed testing their handyman and creative skills in making a toolbox for Dad.
Some kids liked their handiwork so much they wanted to keep it for themselves!

Click here for the Year 1 - 6 Uniform Schedule. Kindergarten and Pre-Primary wear Physical Education uniform each day.

Please note that smart watches are not part of the uniform and are not permitted unless there is an arrangement with the Principal.

Lost Property

The school holidays are a good time to complete a uniform audit at home. We ask that over the holiday break you check your child's uniforms for any items that do not belong to them. If you find any, please add them to the Lost Property Box located outside the uniform shop. This box is not free uniforms.

While checking uniforms, it may also be a good opportunity to write your child's name on each of their uniform items. Having names written on uniform items helps return missing items to the correct student.

As this term draws to a close, Teachers have written short snapshots on some of the wonderful events, activities and learning that has taken place in each year group this term.

What an incredibly busy term the Kindergarten children have had.
We have enjoyed inquiring and exploring our topic of ‘Amazing Animals’. Our inquiry led the classes to many interesting and in-depth discussions, where the students discovered facts about ocean and arctic animals, bugs, reptiles, and dinosaurs. A highlight for all the classes was our farm incursion, where children got a chance to pet, and bottle feed the animals.

The children have participated in narrative retells where children act out the characters and storyline of the text. Some of our favourites included ‘Mrs Wishy Washy, The Hungry Caterpillar and The Rainbow Fish’. Throughout the term, the classes created many amazing artworks based on our narrative focus and it has been wonderful to see the children’s creativity and individual flair on their art pieces.

It has been such a wonderful term of learning and discovery!

In Pre-Primary we have been very busy measuring every inch of our classrooms!
We have measured the tallest to shortest child in the class, explored all things capacity and found which drink bottle can hold the most amount of water.

The Pre-Primary's have been busy developing their problem solving and reasoning skills through the different units of measurement. From working with large balancing scales to measure mass to connecting mini chains to measure the length of our peers we have been thoroughly enjoying the hands-on learning activities.

We have learnt some important mathematical skills over the last 10 weeks. We are looking forward to seeing what’s in store next term!

In Year One this term we have been learning about history. We focused on the historical Hardey family, who arrived in 1830 and built a house called Tranby House in Maylands. After our excursion to the Tranby House, the Year One students were excited to try build their own Tranby House. We worked with the children to build a giant cubby house out of boxes and used it to re-enact what life would have been like at the Tranby House. The children had rich conversations about family life and demonstrated their knowledge of history through their play. Children dressed up and pretended to be Joseph and Ann Hardey, cooking over the fire, washing clothes in a bucket, and reading by candlelight. The children then decided to make the house more like our houses today, so they built modern security cameras, a key code box, and remote controls.
It was a wonderful learning experience!

In history, we have been investigating the impact of changing technology on people’s lives at home and in the ways they worked, travelled, communicated, and played in the past.
Year 2 Heritage Day is where students and teachers come to school dressed in heritage clothing and participate in a variety of activities throughout the day. Making scones was enjoyed by all participants and for many, it was their first time. Shaking a marble with cream in a jar was a shared task, resulting in making butter. Art and craft activities included creating gumnut characters, olden day telephones, woollen webs, hand sewing and watercolour painting. Quoits was a popular game also Chess and Scrabble. Outside games were egg and spoon race and group skipping with long ropes. Students danced The Brown Jug Polka and played a clapping rhyme; A Sailor Went to Sea.
It was a fun day to end our history topic.

Term 3 has been a wonderful term filled with special days, an excursion and lots of great learning.

In Mathematics, we looked at measuring length, mass and capacity, 3D objects and fact families. It was fun to do some hands-on maths using rulers, kitchen scales and measuring jugs, although there were a few water spills!

Recently, to further our ICT skills, we have been learning how to use Apple Keynote on iPads to make presentations of different topics learnt in class. Quickly, everyone is becoming Keynote experts at problem-solving issues and sharing their knowledge with others.

In Term 3 we participated in the cross country carnival where all the students gave their best effort to finish the race.
In Mathematics, we have been learning about mapping, statistics, probability, chance and data. Students have been busy completing maps, surveys, reading graphs, tables and tallies.
As usual, Book Week was a highlight. We were so impressed with the costumes that our students wore on the day. Our excursion to the Victoria Park Library was a highlight with many of our students going on public transport for the first time. Thank you to the parents who joined us for this activity. In English, we have been learning about persuasive and report writing. We can see some future lawyers emanating from this group! In Inquiry, our focus has been on the explorers and the arrival of the First Fleet. Students have completed a variety of activities, including comparing and contrasting, research tasks, poetry and letter writing from the perspective of people from that era.

In Science this term, the Year 5's completed research projects in groups on different animals and their adaptations. Using what we learnt, we then designed our own “Super Animal”, which had to have adaptations that allowed it to survive in desert, polar and forest environments. We drew a diagram of our animal, and then made a model out of clay, which we painted at the end of the term.

“I found the super animal project fun because it was very exciting creating an animal of your own and making it out of clay.” - Janice

“I liked how we could be creative and use our imagination.” - Ellie

“I liked how we got to choose the adaptations of our animal and it could be whatever we wanted.” - Paige

“It was really different and something we had never done before.” - Alycia

“It was very fun moulding the clay and I liked how we used our creativity to make the model.” - Sarah

We have had a very busy term in the Year 6 class. For our assembly this term, we taught the school what the "R U OK?" day means and displayed a blue tree. For book week we made our sheep costumes for the book Where Is The Green Sheep? We had lots of very interesting looking sheep. We also helped the Pre-Primary class make signs for their pizza sale.

Throughout the term, the students have been doing the National History Challenge which is a research-based competition that gives students a chance to be a historian, researching world history.  The topic this year was Significance and the students had to write a 1000 word essay on their chosen theme and design a 3D model. Some of the themes they have written about are Marie Curie, World War Two, The French Revolution, The Twin Towers, Indonesia Hero Day and Albert Einstein.

In Art we have looked at the artist's Piet Mondrian, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama and Joanne Duffy. The students created a wooden sculpture based on the artist Piet Mondrian.

The students started the term going to River School with the Pre-Primary class. On their walks to Heirisson Island, they investigated and observed nature, engaged in some self-directed learning, and helped the Pre-Primary students learn more about the river.

We went to the Eco Centre where students used field equipment to investigate the critical role of aquatic life in maintaining the health of wetland ecosystems.

The students also went rock climbing at the Hang Out this term. There they participated in a range of different climbs. It was a good activity to overcome their fears of height and problem solve as they worked out how to climb the wall and see how much strength they have.
To end our program for the term we went on a hike at the John Forrest National Park. The students walked the wildflower loop and looked for the various wildflowers that are now blooming. They also went into the old railway tunnel. It was a challenging hike, but they did well and completed the walk.

Year 1 to 6 students participated in the Jumps and Throws Carnival Events this term. Students practised hard during class time and completed trials in the lead up to the day. We were blessed with perfect weather on the day as students competed and their classmates came down to support them. Students are looking forward to the Athletics Carnival on Thursday 14th October (Week 1 of Term 4).

In Italian this term, the Year 6's have been demonstrating their song-writing skills & dance moves in a remake of a famous Italian song. In groups, students had to substitute the original lyrics with verbs in Italian. They then performed their fresh, new Italian song to the class, along with their choreographed dance. It was great to see these performances come together and I admired the teamwork between students. It seems that ‘Regent has talent’!

In Design and Technology this term the Pre-Primary students have designed dollhouse furniture on Book Creator on our iPads during class. We then printed out their designs and the students chose what materials they wanted to use to create and construct their furniture. They used their design to make their furniture and then each class decorated a dollhouse made from a large box. We put their furniture in the dollhouse and the students have enjoyed playing with their dollhouse and furniture. It was a lot of fun!

In preparation for a move into hybrid learning, each class spent much of this term learning how to use hybrid technology. In the upper years, we had a lot of fun using the iPad in-built apps and a combination of other apps to create and manipulate images of ourselves and images of known locations. In this example, we added text overlays to turn these images into “postcards” to our parents. Whilst these were not actual postcards and weren’t sent to parents, it allows the students to begin to understand that digital images can be altered, quite easily.
This follows naturally into a conversation about Digital Citizenship and eSafety.
