40th Anniversary of L'Arche Genesaret, Canberra

The Vanier House staff celebrated the 40th Anniversary of L’Arche Genesaret, Canberra. The night was a wonderful celebration, story and song! This significant anniversary marks the beginning of L’Arche in Australia, since its foundation in 1978. As Jean Vanier is the patron of our purple house we have formed a wonderful partnership with our house group and the L’Arche houses in Canberra. Jean Vanier’s values and strong message of inclusion have been instrumental in forming our houses identity. It was an absolute privilege to be included in celebrating their accomplishments in the past 40 years.

Hi! I’m Hannah, the new Youth Minister for JPC!!

My name is Hannah McMahon, I am 19 years old and I have lived in a very small town called Urunga (10 hours north of Canberra) for the last 19 years. I have only been in Canberra for 2 weeks, and I have been lost approximately 7 times already! The other day I went into the city and parked my car, about 20 minutes and 3 kilometres later... I finally found it! So basically I have not got the whole Canberra parking thing yet.

This year I will be the Youth Minister here at John Paul College and I will be here every Thursday. I am super excited to get started!

We will be launching AWAKEN which will be a really lovely way to start the day every second Thursday. On every other Thursday morning we will be holding a Mass in the Chapel at 8:20am. Both AWAKEN and Mass will be open to everyone. So come along!

I am most excited about getting to know everyone including the staff, students and families in the John Paul College community!

But hey, how do YOU get involved in Youth Ministry and John Paul College?
Well that’s easy. If you see a red shirt on a Thursday, go and have a chat and learn what it is all about. Go and see Miss.Jones, Miss Keane and Mrs.O’Shea or come and see me as I will be here every Thursday. But the best way for you all to get involved is to come along!

The schedule for each week is below :)

French Film Festival Festival de films français

Bonjour!

On Wednesday the 14th of March, the French language students in years 9-12, along with some from year 8, went on an excursion to Palace Electric for the Alliance Française French Film Festival, which is currently showcasing a variety of French films in a range of genres to Australian audiences.

The French Film festival gave students the opportunity to select between the films; Belle et Sébastien and L’école Buissonière (School of Life). The students thoroughly enjoyed the films, along with the cultural and language immersion they provided.

We tried playing I-Spy in French on the bus trip there, which was good fun. The movie we saw was ‘Belle et Sébastien’, which was very cute as it’s about a boy’s relationship with his dog. Students from other schools were there as well, so it was a great community experience. It was a great fun day and we recommend the festival for everyone, regardless of their French speaking abilities.

Merci Monsieur Battaglia d'avoir tout organisé! Thank you also to Mr Hanna for accompanying & supporting this wonderful cultural excursion.

What is the Empower U Program?

Australia’s Leading Advanced Life-Skill Seminar For Teenagers and Young Adults. What would it mean if your teenager had the mindset and motivation to create a successful future? If they had more motivation, improved attitude, better exam marks and a more open family relationship?

The Empower U Program is the easiest way for your child to acquire the advanced ‘life-skills’ they must have to get ahead in today’s unpredictable and fast-changing world.

We cover a whole lot of topics from communication skills, money and finance, career techniques, goal setting, emotional intelligence amongst others.

What I would say though, when you put all of that aside, they will come away with a new found belief in themselves and the potential of their future.

The weekend itself is described by most who attend as "life changing". Mainly because we create a very unique environment and share powerful concepts that really get people thinking more about themselves another lives than they ever have before.
