I hope that you had a wonderful New Year, and that you are as excited as I am for this year's Texas Legislative Session! 

85th Legislative Session Begins

On Tuesday, January 10th the 85th Texas Legislature officially gaveled in! I will represent District 6 proudly for my 3rd legislative session in the Texas Senate. Over the last several months, I have met with constituents, community leaders, and other stakeholders to develop my legislative priorities and I am ready to work tirelessly to ensure the voices of District 6 are heard in Austin.

School Board Appreciation Month

January is Texas School Board Recognition Month. Public participation in school district governance through school boards and local Parent Teacher Associations are vital to the success of our schools and our students. I encourage everyone to contact their local School District office to find out more about getting involved in the school district decision making process. And if you meet a school board member, thank them for their service!

We appreciate Houston Independent School District's Board of Education! Congratulations to our two new board members, Anne Sung and Holly Maria Flynn Vilaseca!

I am so honored to have been sworn in to represent Senate District 6 as its 38th Senator. We have a lot of work to do, and I am so honored to speak up and out for our communities during this year's 85th Texas Legislative Session!

This last Sunday women across the world marched for the rights of all people - no matter what color, gender, religion, zip code, immigration status or who they love.This historic event proved that people from all backgrounds are willing to stand together for peace and justice. Partaking in this march reignited my deep devotion and passion for social justice, and I am ready to continue fighting for all communities this Texas Legislative Session!

2017 is here and I hope you all had a happy New Year. School has started, community groups are meeting, and the 85th Legislative Session is officially underway. This session will challenge us in many ways, and we are ready to fight for Senate District 6 and for people across Texas.  While the majority of my time will be spent in Austin over the next several months, rest assured that my district staff will remain active and engaged in the community. We look forward to working on your behalf whether in Austin or Senate District 6!
