Click here ![]() SPARTANS AROUND THE WORLD ENGAGE IN HONG KONGOver 100 alumni and friends from more than 8 different countries gathered in Hong Kong for the annual ENGAGE: International Alumni Reunion hosted, this year, by the MSU Alumni Club of Hong Kong. Attended by President Lou Anna K. Simon, the reunion highlighted the importance of sustainability and conservation, showcasing the extraordinary work Spartans are doing to combat the growing issues of climate change and pollution. The three-day event was packed with activities and events that allowed attendees to engage in personal and professional networking, community engagement, and celebrate philanthropy. Through Michigan State University's Residential Initiative on the Study of the Environment (RISE), sophomore Thiramet 'Dream' Sotthiyapai from Thailand has been able to transform his passion for environmental sustainability into a hands-on experience that is helping build a greener future for our planet. Home to more than 7,000 international students, like Dream, Michigan State wants to ensure their success on campus and after graduation. This community really cares about you, and they want to know you and help you succeed." ![]() ![]() MSU alumni and researchers, Dr. Patricia Werner (Natural Science) and Petrus Gunarso (Agriculture and Natural Resources), have dedicated their lives to creating a sustainable future. As the featured presenters at the reunion, Dr. Werner and Mr. Gunarso addressed major environmental concerns facing our world and how Michigan State University prepared them to be leaders in their chosen fields. "I am looking forward to meeting other alumni and taking this opportunity to do the best effort of being an alumna of my university, Michigan State University." ![]() A COLLECTIVE IMPACTSpartans join forces to combat plastic marine pollution.Spartans have a longstanding tradition of giving back to their local communities. In partnership with Plastic Free Seas, a Hong Kong-based non-profit dedicated to reducing plastic marine pollution, Spartans volunteered their time to cleaning up a local beach. In addition to a dozen garbage bags full of trash, volunteers collected 262 straws, 633 bottle caps, and 107 pieces of cutlery, totaling 1,002 pieces of single-use plastics. "I have served with fellow students in the East Lansing community, and now I have made a tangible impact with a global network of Spartans. A great capstone to my MSU career!"
