Click here Up a Tree by John McGrath, Visioning the Outdoors 2017 entry Hi there, While for many it was quite a wet few days, we do hope you had a lovely, happy, safe and outdoorsy break over Easter, and have come back revived and re-inspired to spend more time outdoors and to enjoy the best that the Queensland environment has to offer. Here at QORF and Nature Play QLD we are as busy as always with staff travelling around the state catching up with the sector and attending various meetings. We are also attending The Outdoor Council of Australia AGM and the Outdoors Victoria conference. And, of course, there is also the election on May 18. Does your preferred party or politician have good intentions when it comes to the outdoors, healthy outdoor activity, climate change and the environment? It is time to decide who you are going to nominate for which award! Award winners will be announced in Brisbane at the annual Outdoors Queensland Awards Dinner on Friday October 25 Visioning the Outdoors Film and Photo CompetitionWonderful prizes, a long summer, the Easter holidays and some great weather have created some excellent opportunities for taking great photos and making beautiful films. We are looking forward to seeing what you've come up with! These will be published on the competition site and on social media. Read More Challenge Courses Good Practice Guide (AAAS)The Challenge Course Good Practice Guide (low and high ropes) has now been pre-released, prior to the official launch in September 2019, and is now available from the AAAS website . 24-hour Movement GuidelinesNo more than two hours of sedentary recreational screen time a day, and at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity are among the recommendations of the new guidelines. Becoming Active OlderThey have the most free time of any age group yet they are the least active group of all.Only 27 per cent of Australians over 65 meet the Department of Health physical activity guidelines of 30 minutes activity per day, a minimum which brings significant health benefits.. Not knowing fishing rules results in $4000 fineFishers are being urged to make sure they know Queensland’s fishing rules after five Sunshine Coast fishers were recently fined a total of $4000 for taking undersized fish.
