UPCOMING DSR WORKSHOPS

EWA would like to recommend that all EWA clubs check the Department of Sport and Recreation Events page for upcoming workshops that could be of interest to your committee, riders and volunteers. DSR holds regular workshops on club management, coaching, officiating, safety and many other topics.


COACHES

EWA NCAS COACHING UPDATE 13 MARCH

EWA and the NCAS Advisory Panel successfully conducted their annual compulsory coach update at the State Equestrian Centre on Monday.

More than fifty coaches attended the day and enjoyed presentations from Steward Janet Reid, Coach Educators Rebecca Thomas and Zoe Harrison. Representatives from Gow-Gates were available to answer common questions in relation to coaching insurance and the day concluded with an informative lameness assessment lecture from Dr Kathy Klein.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING AN EA NCAS COACH?

EWA are running an Orientation to Coaching Course on the 3 & 4 April at the State Equestrian Centre, Brigadoon. Please ensure the following pre requisites have been met prior to registering to attend this course:

  • Hold current EWA Membership
  • Completed EA Introductory Riding Certificate
  • Completed EA Introductory Horse Management Certificate
  • Hold current First Aid Certificate (eg. Provide First Aid Course HTLAID 003)
  • Completed ASC Beginning Coaching Course - can be done free online www.ausport.gov.au

REGIONAL ATHLETE TRAVEL SUBSIDY SCHEME

The Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme provides funding assistance to regional Western Australian athletes aged 13-21 years who are on a high performance pathway. Round 2 applications are opening soon for events that occurred between 15 November 2016 and 15 June 2017. MORE

WADYRA ENTRIES CLOSE TONIGHT

Entries for the WADYRA Junior and Young Rider Dressage Festival close tonight! The competition has classes from Prep A to FEI Small Tour and has nice rosettes and prizes awarded for each class. It is also the last dressage qualifier for the Interschool competition in April.

  • The judges view and requirements for Novice /Elementary levels

EA YOUNG DRESSAGE HORSE SEMINAR

Date: Sunday 16 April

Cost: EA or FEI Young Dressage Horse Judges $0, Other Judges $25, Non-Judges $30

DJTF is proud to host an EA Young Dressage Horse Seminar with International Young Horse and 4* Judge, Ricky MacMillan (QLD). Ricky will be covering the requirements and marking system for 4, 5 and 6 year old horses.

Ricky has been a National Judge for over 35 years and has judged in over 20 countries since becoming an FEI judge in 2008. She is active both in Australia and internationally as a judge educator. Ricky is also a dual Olympian and WEG competitor, competing at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, and has over 30 wins at International Grand Prix level including 5 Pacific League World Cup Finals and a CDI-W win in Nunspeet, Holland.

Ricky breeds and trains dressage horses on the Gold Coast and while competing at dressage shows now has to fit in with other activities, she is still a member of the QLD State FEI Squad and competes with home bred young horses at local shows,

We encourage everyone interested in the training and preparation of young dressage horses to attend this seminar. Judges, riders and coaches are all important for the development of our Dressage stars of the future.

VALLEY EQUINE VETERINARY CENTRE

The WA Eventing Committee would like to thank Warwick Vale and the team at Valley Equine Veterinary Centre for their continued support of our state's eventing community.

Valley Equine Veterinary Centre provides $2500 each year to Eventing WA, plus veterinary attendance at one WA FEI CIC/CCI event in an FEI Veterinary Delegate Capacity, and two annual veterinary lectures to WA Eventing Squad Members.

They also sponsor the FEI Young Eventing Rider of the Year Award, which aims to foster the young eventing rider into FEI competitions. The award includes a prize for the most outstanding and successful horse/rider combination of the year and allows for some financial assistance for further training and education for that combination during the following year.

EVENTING WORKSHOP WITH FEI4* JUDGE LES SMITH (UK)

Dressage Judges Task Force and Eventing WA invite Eventing Dressage Judges, Technical Delegates and Stewards to a Workshop with Les Smith (Scotland) - International FEI 4* Eventing Judge, BE Accredited Trainer, BD Judge, show jumping specialist and eventing assessor. Les has competed at major events including Badminton and his FEI Eventing 4* status sees him officiating at events around the world.

Come along and meet Les and get an insight into some of his thoughts on judging the eventing horse including CCI, CIC International levels, National Levels, progression in training, the link between the phases and much more.

QUALIFICATIONS

Entries for the 2017 Saddles Plus State Interschool Championships have now closed so don't forget to send in your Interschool Card!

If you still need to gain more qualifications you have until 26 March to do so. If you do not obtain the required qualifications by the qualification deadline your entries will be refunded minus the admin fee ($47.50). For more information on qualifying click here.

JOCKEYS VS INTERSCHOOLS SHOW JUMPING CHALLENGE

  • Are you competing at the State Interschool Championships?
  • Do you ride an off the track Thoroughbred?

STATE INTERSCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS STABLE BOOKINGS

Don't forget to submit your stable booking forms as soon as possible to avoid missing out. The form is attached to the Nominate receipt that is emailed to you after you enter. The SEC will attempt to allocate you a stable with other riders from your school.

Stable payments will not be charged until closer to the event, so if you are waiting to know which days you will need the stable you can still book and finalise the dates later.


JUMPING - NEWS

MESSAGE FROM YALAMBI ORGANSING COMMITTEE

What great jumping at Yalambi last weekend! Thanks to the competitors, officials, helpers and spectators for helping to make Yalambi's 2017 Jumping Classic such a success. A special nod to the EWA Jumping Committee for its encouraging Horse of the Year, Silver and new Bronze and Novice Qualifying Series and to the Jumping Riders Levy initiative for helping to fund them. Congratulations to everyone who placed and competed - we're looking forward to the next Yalambi Jumping Classic on 3, 4, 5 November.
