St John's School Newsletter Term 4 Week 10 St John's is a Child Safe School where all children are respected and are protected from harm. Principal's Message Dear Parents, Transition - Today is Transition Day and it was fabulous to see our 2021 Foundation students here together and meeting their Year 6 buddy for the first time. Graduation Dinner - Even though, Daniel Andrews has announced an ease in restrictions for some areas we cannot change our plans for the Graduation dinner. The dinner will be held at The Temple on Monday 14th December at 6:30pm, for just the Year 6 students and a small group of staff members. Graduation Mass - The Graduation Mass will be held this Friday 11th December at 12:30pm. The ease of restrictions now allows the parents of Year 5 and 6 students to attend the Mass. If you intend to come to the Mass could you please email or phone the school so we can book you in. Swimming - Last week we began our swimming lessons and Mrs Watson was very pleased to see that nearly all of the students had made significant improvement in their skills. Please refer to the swimming timetable in this newsletter or that has been emailed, for days that your child/ren will need to bring their swimmers to school. Let’s hope the cool weather from the weekend is past us now and we can enjoy some warmer weather for the remainder of the swimming program. Movies - Last week, Year 1, 2 and Year 5 students enjoyed a fabulous outing to the Euroa Cinema and then chips in the park. We were very proud of the way our students conducted themselves both at the cinema and park, they were a pleasure to take out. Library books - Students with overdue library books need to return them as soon as possible please. This will make Dee very happy. Fees - A reminder to parents that fees are now overdue. If your child is not returning to St John’s in 2021 could you please contact the school immediately as we have prospective students on waiting lists for most year levels. All parents must fill out the fee payment form on PAM for the 2021 school year. This is an annual requirement and needs to be completed by the end of this week and is a condition of your child’s enrolment at our school. Working with Children Check cards - If you have a Working with Children Check card that is new or has been updated, we’d appreciate having a copy of it on file here at school. Please take a clear photo of the card and email it to principal@sjeuroa.catholic.edu.au. Joanne Rock - It is with great sadness that we learnt today that Joanne Rock (FCJ Principal) has accepted the Principal position at Santa Maria College, Northcote. Joanne will leave FCJ in Term 3, 2021 and we wish her all the best in her new role. Email from Brenton - Please look out for the email that was sent today from Brenton regarding parent access to student reports. If you have any questions or trouble logging in please ring us at school and Brenton will be able to help you. TheirCare - We have had confirmation that from the beginning of Term 1, Their Care will open for Before School Care from 6:30am each weekday morning. Last day of school - Next Wednesday 16th is the students last day for the year concluding at 3:15pm. Libby Hamilton. Calendar of Events
Religious Education Week 10 Prayer Second Week of Advent - During the second week of Advent, we focus on John the Baptist’s challenge: Prepare the way of the Lord! Mark 1:1-8 “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’” We light the second purple candle of Advent Wreath – The Peace Candle. We light the second candle to represent John the Baptist, who proclaims Jesus as the Messiah. This candle is the candle of peace, a sign that God's promises will be fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ - Prince of Peace. Peace is a gift that we must be prepared for. God gives us the gift of peace, when we turn to him in faith. May the light of the wreath be a sign of peace and tolerance to all people. Let the truth of God’s Word lead us all toward your kingdom. Advent is a waiting time. We await the celebration of the birth of Jesus; God lives today, and so our first challenge is to bring Jesus to life in our own living, to become aware of his presence. We know the presence of the Spirit within us, prompting us, sustaining us, working through us, waiting for us. God of expectation, may we, your people, who prepare a way for the Lord, experience the joy of salvation and celebrate the feast of Christ with love and thanksgiving.
