Western Australia emergency response planning and execution

The Western Australian government has issued a weather warning.

NDIS providers supporting people with disability must activate emergency response plans, taking all steps necessary to safeguard the people with disability they support.

Providers should follow state emergency service instructions.

You can find those instructions at Emergency WA.

Key Information

  • The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has issued severe weather and potential flooding warnings for parts of the Pilbara coast and Midwest-Gascoyne region.
  • The Department of Communities (Communities) has activated welfare evacuation centres in two designated regions:
  • Midwest-Gascoyne where cyclone landfall is expected to occur; and
  • Goldfields and Wheatbelt, where tropical low conditions are expected.
  • Dongara - Irwin Recreation Centre in Port Denison has opened with a total capacity of 1,000 sleep/2,000 standing and will be fully operational from 5pm on Saturday 10 April.
  • Carnarvon Civic Centre, Carnarvon, will be fully operational from 5pm Saturday 10 April, with a capacity of 200 sleeping/400 standing.
  • Further welfare evacuation centres are on standby if required at Lehman Recreation and Community Centre, Leeman, and Jurien Bay Community Centre and Oval.
  • Red Cross setting up online registrations for evacuees.
  • Evacuation centres will be operational from Sunday to Monday and then transition to relief and recovery mode as the storm subsides.
  • State Emergency Coordination Group has asked Communities to consider accommodation options in the event of mass evacuation or significant infrastructure damage.
  • Remote communities in the Pilbara and Goldfields are being contacted.
  • Regional offices are planning for potential damage to housing stock and will mobilise to respond.
  • Impact on the Wheatbelt and Goldfields has been downgraded to a low, not a cyclone.
