To: Health Care Professionals in Niagara
From: Clinical Services Division, Niagara Region Public Health
Reference: Pfizer COVID-19 KP.2 Vaccine Market Withdrawal
Date: September 3, 2025

The Ontario Ministry of Health has notified us that Health Canada is withdrawing the Pfizer COVID-19 KP.2 vaccines from the market. The Moderna COVID-19 KP.2 products have already reached expiry.  If you have not already done so, please remove any remaining expired COVID-19 KP.2 vaccine doses from your fridges. Follow local practices and processes for the destruction of COVID-19 vaccines and update COVaxON with the resulting wastage (refer to linked memo below for details).

Public Health anticipates the new COVID-19 formulation (LP.8.1) this fall for the upcoming respiratory season. Doses will be released as inventory is received from the Ontario Ministry of Health.

Public Health will provide updates (including revised vaccine order forms) and guidance for COVID-19, influenza and RSV products once available from the Ontario Ministry of Health.

See memo from the Ontario Ministry of Health for complete details.
