An open letter on racism in philanthropy and the trials of a Black founder
The Grio publishes an opinion piece by Aaron Walker, founder and CEO of Camelback Ventures, which highlights the obstacles faced by entrepreneurs of colour. His open letter about racism in philanthropy is addressed to founders of color to remind them that they are not alone. His analogy, “the oxygen in this world is money,” is perhaps a perspective that invests in conversations about BIPOC entrepreneurs’ struggle in an environment as such. Read More
Indigenous populations: left behind in the COVID-19 response
The Lancet argues that Indigenous peoples face a greater burden of disease than non-Indigenous peoples. The authors highlight that health services for Indigenous populations are under-resourced with language and culture barriers. Their article also points out that even as the vulnerability of Indigenous populations to COVID-19 becomes apparent, they have been left out of the first wave of relief. Read More
Rockefeller Brothers Fund Launches Program on Racial Justice, Boosts Grants by $48 Million
The Rockefeller Brothers Fund increases its grantmaking budget by $48 million over five years and launches a new program including a $10 million fund to focus on racial justice. The Chronicle of Philanthropy highlights that the fund is intended to help current grantees while addressing racism in American society. Read More
The Need for Strong Arts and Culture Organizations & Historically Disadvantaged Communities
The Center for Effective Philanthropy’s report on “Funder Support During the COVID-19 Pandemic” found that COVID-19 harmed organizations that provide direct services to historically disadvantaged communities such as Black, Native American, and other communities of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ communities, and immigrants. Limited revenues continue to be a problem, but the challenge resides with arts groups and philanthropy’s critical role in facilitating “unrestricted general operating support.” Read More
For some non-profits, COVID-19 is not just a struggle. It’s a do-or-die moment
Some of Canada’s non-profit organizations struggle more than others because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The disruption in the sector resulted in various casualties described in the article which also sheds light on pre-COVID struggles. SDG NEXT STEPS: Creation of a Working Group On May 22, as part of Canada's National Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Accelerate 2030 Consortium for Quebec unveiled its colours. PFC is one of the initiators of this promising movement to have taken root in Quebec in 2018. Its mission is to accelerate the creation of innovative and effective partnerships between governments, the private sector,
and civil society to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.
In July, PFC will set up a working group with some foundations with the Consortium. We invite you to express your interest in joining this collaborative process. January 23, 2020: Collaborative workshop - Philanthropy & 2030 Agenda The SDG Framework as an opportunity in Canada
An interactive workshop explored the opportunity to use the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an integrative and transversal framework in the Canadian philanthropic environment, in particular, to promote qualification and impact measurement as well as generation common data for field projects.

Charles Beaudry reflects on assistance programs announced by Ottawa and the provinces to alleviate the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis totaling to “$351 billion as of May 1, 2020.” The blog questions whether we are ensuring that the needs of future generations are being taken into account. The Accélérer 2030 pour le Québec Consortium proposes a cooperative approach of coordinated actions based on innovation and benefit-sharing. Read more
