Niagara Region co-hosts tree health workshop on August 18

August is Tree Check Month and Niagara Region, in partnership with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, is co-hosting a free tree check event to teach residents how to keep their trees and greenspaces healthy.
A public demonstration will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the main entrance pavilion at the Glenridge Quarry Naturalization site (1860 Sir Isaac Brock Way, Thorold). Parking is available on site. Registration is not required.
Residents will get tips for checking trees and learn how to spot early signs of trouble from local experts during a walk and learn workshop. The event will include a walk along a pathway where residents will learn about different tree and invasive species. With just a few minutes and a quick look for signs, like tiny holes in the bark, sawdust at the base, dead branches or leaves falling too early, residents can help protect the health of the local urban forest.
Spot an invasive species? Snap it, catch it and report it. These small actions can make a big difference for the trees in yards, neighbourhoods and local parks.
