Friends,

In July of 2020, Citizens for Free Enterprise conducted a series of polls to measure public sentiment a series of issues around our core free enterprise mission. The poll was national in scope with a sample size of 2500 registered voters.

The key takeaway from this poll is that, despite the seemingly endless calls for socialist policies from the far left, the key tenets of a free market economy have near universal support from Americans.

The top three takeaways were as follows:

  • Small businesses are supported by 95% of Americans
  • Entrepreneurs are supported by 89% of Americans.
  • The Free Enterprise system itself is supported by 86% of Americans.

Other important conclusions from the survey include the following:

  •  When voters are asked to describe socialism, they use terms like “control”, “communism” and “Bad”
  • When voters are asked to describe capitalism, they use terms like “money”, “freedom” and “good”
  • Voters would prefer the free market economy to innovate and provide wealth, wages and jobs over the government.

However, there is still a need to educate our fellow citizens about the benefits of free enterprise and the dangers of socialism. Consider the following results:

  • 38% of voters think a little socialism was “a good thing.”
  • An additional 25% of the population is unsure whether or not a little bit of socialism would be a good thing for our country.
  • 33% of voters are unsure if they would rather live in a socialist or capitalist country.
  • 30% of voters believe that the US economy is somewhere between a capitalist and socialist approach
  • Among voters aged 18-34, only 27% believe that some form of socialism is a bad thing for the country and 35% are unsure if they would prefer to live in a socialist or a capitalist society

It is therefore the mission of Citizens of Free Enterprise to educate and advocate the benefits of free enterprise and to change the hearts and minds of those who have been led astray by the typical socialist promises of shared utopia, which always end in shared misery.
