When I was a sixth-grader at John Nevins Andrews Elementary School in Tacoma Park, Maryland, I can still remember traveling with my parents to a distribution point, where medical personnel was giving all of us small sugar cubes containing the polio vaccine. Subsequently, I never contracted polio, and the disease has essentially been eradicated in this country.

BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE FAMILY LIFE COMMITTEE

Last week I shared some tradition stand-ins for this season when many of our holiday traditions aren’t happening.  Little did I know then that I would be partaking in one of the very suggestions I had written. While at our outdoor Thanksgiving with our best friends, I received a text at 1:56 asking if I would be available to Zoom with family at 2:00. I quickly downloaded Zoom on my phone, and before I knew it, I was Zooming with members of my extended family – seven households across Western New York, Pennsylvania, and my own family here in Michigan. What an awesome surprise!

Neighbor to Neighbor Helps

At Neighbor to Neighbor, we've had a whirlwind year. Our brand new Thrift Store enjoyed a successful opening at the beginning of November, thanks to our dedicated volunteers and wonderful patrons. Sunday, November 22nd, was poised to be our grand dedication service. Restrictions on indoor gatherings had just been issued, so sadly the event was not as grand as initially anticipated.

Milet's Story

"We decided to try double tithing for a while and then my husband lost his job. We weren't expecting it, it just happened. I was working as a nurse, but wasn't working much. That same day my husband got a call from a person he'd gone to school with offering a temporary position, but added that he could stay there indefinitely afterward if he was able to take the job. He went from having no job to suddenly having a better job, better offer, and 5 years later he's still there. Little things like that were taken care of right there at the moment."

Did you notice that the lights and decorations are going up earlier this year? It seems that many people are tired of the gloom and discouragement this pandemic has caused. To encourage each other through this challenging and physically-distanced holiday season, the Pioneer Women’s Ministry team is delighted to share with you a moment of light each day until Christmas.
