RiverLink open day 2

A big thank you to those who attended our open day last month. We had a great turnout with over 202 people through the doors and a wide range of valuable feedback on our indicative plans.

Our second open day was an opportunity to share the draft plan, show what was commented on at the first open day and share how the design team have responded to this feedback.

It was also an opportunity to show the seven stages of construction and what the shared pathway and new stopbank heights will look like.

With 3 main feedback topics from the 134 comments being – river city, roads and the positive effects the project will have on the city.

There was a strong response with over half the people attending commenting on how RiverLink will help transform Lower Hutt into a river city - a city that celebrates and incorporates the river into everyday activity.

People are very keen to see Lower Hutt gain improved access to the river, a healthy river and having a greater range of transport choices.

There were many positive comments about the project overall with calls for it to happen as fast as possible, to avoid using exotic plants and to make sure pedestrians and cyclists are considered throughout construction. Comments were made about the importance of flood protection and planting around the river and paths. A great deal of comments centred around having a cyclist and walking-friendly centre, and having easy access to the city via the cyclist and pedestrian bridge.

RiverLink joined Hutt City Council at Petone Fair

It was great to see so many people attending the Petone Fair. There were an estimated 30,000 at the extremely popular Jackson Street event. Thank you to everyone that stopped by and chatted to us about RiverLink.

Frocks and Finery - Picnic by bike

The RiverLink team was delighted to be involved with and support the Frocks and Finery event last Saturday. We loved seeing all the vintage clothing and retro bikes. It was certainly a great day for riding along the beautiful Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt River.

Frocks and Finery is part of Bike the Hutt – Hutt Valley’s festival of cycling fun, entertainment and competition for both riders and spectators.
