Māori music at SOUNZ
In January, Toni Huata started in the new role of Kaihautū Puoro Māori - Director of Māori Music. She is working on the implementation and development of our Māori Music Strategy, creating links to and representation of Māori composers. RNZ Concert Upbeat broadcast an interview with Toni on Waitangi Day.
Chris Artley won the District of Columbia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists Competition for a Commissioned Composition for Organ Solo. Toccata for Organ, was one of nearly one hundred entries and will be performed in a concert by one of the world's leading organists, David Briggs, later this year.
The latest NZSO Todd Corporation Young Composers Awards winners are:
Luka Venter, the overall Todd Young Composer award for Primeval Light, and Julius Magpantay winner of the orchestra’s choice award with A Sensitivity to Ephemera. The awards give young composers an opportunity to have their work played by the NZSO.
