Significant product clearance delays happening in China

Dear STAG members,

This is to alert you to some airport closures in China due to backlog of product waiting to be cleared.  The backlog is being caused by the increased surveillance testing happening because of COVID 19 and is related to the lack of chiller and freezer capacity to meet demand.

We are monitoring the situation and exporters are advised to keep in close contact with their importers.  These measures are not targeting Australia but are applying to all goods from all countries.

We understand that closures have been announced for Shanghai Pudong and Guzhou Baiyun in Guangzhou.

Please contact us at admin@seafoodtradeadvisory.com if you have any concern or further information.

Below is an informal translation of information that has been passed to us.

Subject: Notification regarding the suspension of chilled cold-chain goods.

Dear all transportation airlines,

In accordance with the overall requirements of prevention and control of COVID-19, China Customs must conduct the sampling and testing of novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) nucleic acid, and preventive disinfection for the chilled, cold-chain cargo. As recent international inbound flights have carried large quantities of cargo of this type, the sampling and testing capacity and the storage areas of warehouses for cargo pick up and storage cannot meet the rapidly increasing handling requirements, with a visible tendency of large quantities of chilled, cold-chain cargo unable to be handled on time. At present, Guangzhou City is in hot summer weather, when cold stores are in high demand.

It is hereby announced that to ensure chilled, cold-chain cargo transportation quality and effectively safeguard customers’ interests, from today (suspension for 1 week), the Guzhou Baiyun international logistics international cargo stations shall suspend the receipt of all the international inbound chilled, cold-chain cargo. All the relevant transportation airlines are requested to cooperate in implementation immediately, to jointly provide customers with safe and reliant services of good quality.

Regards,

Guzhou Baiyun International Logistics Company Limited
