"Nothing!"

If you ask your child what they did in school, the chances are they will probably reply, “Nothing!” What they mean to say is, “I have had such an exciting day at school that I just need to sit down and process all I have learnt today". This fortnight the students have settled into the pattern of our routines and are beginning to enjoy spending quality time as a class. During our time together we have been baking biscuits, learning about shapes in our environment, comparing rhyming words and reading lots of books together. The students in Kindergarten 1 can tell you that an Author is someone who writes books and also tell you what they would like to be. It has been fabulous getting to know all about each other. Mrs Huxley.

All shaped up!

Continuing from our numeracy focus in the classroom, the children have been learning about common shapes such as the square, triangle and rectangle. They have been building things out of different sponge shapes, drawing pictures using shapes as well as making shape play dough patterns! Come into our classroom and look at their colourful window mosaic craft, using only square-shaped translucent paper, providing a vibrancy of colours into our room! Mrs Balakrishnan.

"How long is your hair, Rapunzel?"

The children in Pre-primary have been busy learning more about fairy tales. Over the past 2 weeks they have explored the tales of Rapunzel and Cinderella; the children used different materials to measure Rapunzel’s hair length, as well as make their very own tall Rapunzel tower. Since the beginning of the term the children have been practicing their single sounds and letter formations. As a part of the History program, the children have each been sharing their family tree with one another. We have all enjoyed learning more about others in the classroom, their families and their cultural backgrounds. Thank you to everyone, they look amazing, be sure to pop in and have a look!

Post it.

Year 1.1 and 1.2 have been learning about letterboxes in Design and Technology. We started by researching different types of letterboxes and going for a walk to investigate what the letterboxes in the neighbourhood looked like. With pictures of many different shaped and sized letterboxes, we designed our own letterboxes to make. Using our designs, we then constructed our letterboxes out of cardboard and other recycled materials. We are now enjoying posting letters to each other and checking our letterboxes for mail each day.

Day camp.

Recently, the Year 2.1 class enjoyed a Day Camp. First, the students worked in small groups, designing a tent suitable to fit their group for the day. Then the students brought suitable materials to school to construct their tents. They also brought a game to share with their friends, and their teddy. Mrs Wild, Mrs Chan and Mr Lin helped prepare and cook the sausage sizzle for the students, which were eaten in their tents. The students also made their own chocolate milk drink and enjoyed drinking it with a chocolate chip biscuit. After lunch the students packed away their tents and went to Music.

From the music room.

As part of Day Camp, the Year 2.1 students enjoyed an afternoon of musical fun around the “campfire”. The room was filled with smiles and laughter as the students danced and sung along to ‘The Crazy Moose and Baby Shark’ repeat songs. They strummed the ukuleles and tapped the tapping sticks, while singing some traditional campfire songs including Kum-ba- yah. We finished off with some challenging hand clapping games.

Time to move!

In Art, the Year 2/3 class have been learning about the body in motion and have been discovering the joints of the body.

They have drawn their friends (and teacher!) in a variety of poses and themselves from photographs they have taken.

They began by using ovals which overlapped at the site of the joint and finally adding details such as hair and clothing.

Safety at all times!

In Class 3.1 we have been learning about Road safety.   As pedestrians, we need to stand behind the kerb and check for traffic before walking across the road.   We also learnt that we must be very careful in a carpark as sometimes we cannot be seen!

We attended an incursion run by staff from Commonwealth Bank.   We were taught how to flex our money muscles after “Coach Cash” explained the difference between credit cards and debit cards, deposits and withdrawals and looking for good deals when we buy things.   Andrew was a banker and Mallika was a shop assistant and we saw how a card transaction takes place.   Just swipe!

The Year 4’s are feeling very proud after their assembly performance as are Mrs Johnston and Mrs Marshall.  They worked hard to perform with good timing and to perfect the art of singing and playing an instrument simultaneously.  The song Diamonds acknowledges the fact that we are growing and changing with God’s help.  We look forward to working together in the future and living up to our class motto of “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Clean it up!

On Friday the 4th March, the Year 5/6 class joined many Australian for help clean up Australia day. The class helped pick up rubbish between the Causeway and Burswood. All the students did a fantastic job of helping look after God's creation.

Sleep over, time!

Last Friday night, approximately twenty five Year 3 students, each with a parent, slept over at the College - outside along the veranda. The night was an opportunity to build community and participate in a special Creation focus as part of annual Earth Hour celebrations. A very special thanks to Mrs Wendy Innes, Mrs Selina Wilkinson, Mrs Pamela Ellis and Mr Paul Curtis, for organising and participating in the evening. Of course, thanks to the super students, mums and dads!
