LCA Grow Ministries On Your Hearts eNews No Images? Click here Putting God's word on our hearts Verse 6 from Deuteronomy 6, commands us to put God’s word on our hearts. But how do we do this? Through the practice of daily devotions - by reading the Bible and listening to God’s words for us. We can take up the practice of reading God’s word each day and reflecting on it. This ‘devotion’ time is a time and space specifically set aside, where we invite God to work in our hearts. A daily Bible reading, like those found in the Growing Faith at Home resource, helps to focus our thoughts and guide our prayers, helping us tune out other distractions so we can give God all of our attention. Grow Ministries invited participants from across the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand to be involved in sharing their voice on issues that our church is facing prior to the 2018 National Convention of Synod. On April 12-15 2018, 27 participants descended into Adelaide and headed to Australian Lutheran College to attend NYF18. The weekend has been deemed as a huge success. NYF18 was supported by the team from Grow Ministries, staff of ALC and the LCA, Lutherans for Life and participants of the 2017 Grow Leadership Program. Here is a small snapshot of the weekend…. NEW RESOURCE Grow Ministries wanted to provide our young adults with a resource for when they meet together, and to encourage them as they journey in faith together. This new resource is called ‘Talking Points’. It has been designed for young adults as a guide for them as they discuss a range of topics. Do you know about Grow Together? It is a quarterly printed newsletter aimed to equip parents and families with inspiration to take up their spiritual role as parents, grandparents and carers, as they parent with eternity in mind. An ideal gift from congregations to support families. Available in 12 month or a 2 year subscription. My name is Kristin Lucas and I live in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, where I attend Immanuel Lutheran Church. I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio in the United States. Our family moved to Australia from the USA two years ago, as my husband, Ben, took a role as a lecturer at the University of Sunshine Coast. I also have two daughters: Molly, age 11, and Caroline, age 7. Prior to moving to Australia, I was the Minister of Youth and Children at a medium-sized church in Atlanta, Georgia for five years. I loved working in the church and having the opportunity to talk to young people and their parents about their faith. Before that, I worked as a teacher in a Christian school, where I also enjoyed the opportunities to build relationships with my students and their parents on both an academic and spiritual level. Both of these roles developed in me a passion for ministering to young people and an interest in the faith formation of children and youth. I am pleased to be exploring these topics more in my role as Resource Coordinator for Confirmation with Grow Ministries. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors. We love to hike and explore—especially in the Sunshine Coast hinterlands! I also love to travel, read, and spend time with friends.
