2016 Equestrian Australia AGM and Board Announcement

The Equestrian Australia (EA) Annual General Meeting was held in Sydney on 8 October, bringing together EA’s state branch members for an annual review of the organisation’s operations.

Judy Fasher and David Lindh were elected to General Director roles on the Board and at the Board meeting the following day, Judy was appointed to the position of Chair.

Martin rides to fourth in Rio Freestyle

Para-Equestrian Lisa Martin capped off her first Paralympic Games with a fourth place finish in the Individual Freestyle Test Grade IV at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. 

The 44-year-old scored 72.25% aboard her horse First Famous.

ARIAT RIDER OF THE MONTH : 18 year old Mary Warren, making history at the Nationals

The ever-popular Grand Prix Freestyle at the Australian Dressage Championships offered another great moment of sport to the public and crowned the 18-year-old Mary Warren and her stunning Mindarah Park Ramadan (71.00%).

2016 ADC Performance Medal Presentation

First Equestrian involved in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program

We are delighted to announce that Equestrian Australia member, Elloise Devlin, has been selected as a 2017 Scholarship recipient within The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program.

Elloise is one of five young Australian athletes who have been selected for the 2017 Program and the first Equestrian since the Program commenced in 2006.

Australian Showjumping Championships

The 2016 Australian Showjumping Championships held at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre won’t easily be forgotten. Not only will it go down as the best Australian Championships that has ever been staged but it will also be remembered by organisers for the incredibly challenging conditions placed upon them leading up to the event as Victoria was facing huge floods.

The Australian Junior Champion was Jess Rice-Ward riding Kiwi Guard.

The Australian Young Rider Champion was Madeline Sinderberry riding the very popular and speedy Fernhill Zinzan.

The Australian Senior Champion was Jamie Kermond onboard Yandoo Oaks Constellation returning from a very successful European Campaign just in time to sweep in and claim the title.

Olympic medallist Chris Burton takes Young Horse Eventing gold at Le Lion

Rio 2016 Olympic Games team bronze medallist Christopher Burton from Australia topped the 6-year-old division with the KWPN Fire Fly at the FEI World Breeding Federation Eventing Championships for Young Horses 2016 at Le Lion d’Angers, France. Read MORE Facebook Like Button Tweet Button


Helmet Regulations Updated

The helmet approved standards list has been updated in the Equestrian Australia General Regulations as from 19 October 2016. 

Judy Fasher, Chair of EA says, “Equestrian Australia is pleased to have aligned our rules with international standards for riding helmets. The new rules offer variety, combined with the most advanced technology available in the production and design of riding helmets.”

January rule changes

Discipline rule changes will come into effect on 1 January 2017.

Equestrian Australia publishes the new rules during the month of October to allow a period for members to familiarise with the changes.

Taking it to the top: Edwina Tops-Alexander reveals her thoughts on LGCT Final

The clock is counting down to the 2016 Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) season finale, where one rider will be crowned the overall LGCT Champion of Champions. Throughout the year we’ve had three riders on top, however as the days draw us closer to Doha and the final Grand Prix of the year, it’s become a clear two horse race to the finish. Leading lady, Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS) is no stranger to being at the sharp end of the grid, with the two time LGCT Champion of Champions poised to make history should she secure a historic third win of her career. Success for Australia in the World Endurance Championships

Equestrian Australia congratulates the Australian Endurance Team on its success at the recent Longines FEI World Endurance Championships held in Samorvin, Slovakia on the 16 – 19 September.  To achieve a 4th placing in this very competitive event was outstanding and a real testament to the solid selection process that was implemented for this Championship. Water Requirements for Horses: Five Important Facts

Of the six nutrients required by the horse – carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals and water; water is by far the most important to the horse, yet is often the one we think of last.   Therefore, we are going to look at some key principles about water that are worth remembering!

A horse can live for almost a month without food, but within a mere 48 hours without water a horse can begin to show signs of colic and can quickly become life threatening.
