South Bay Opening Day - May 18th

It’s almost here and the South Bay Opening Day Committee is looking for your support!

We need a few more volunteers!  Please let us know by signing up at the on-line form. Please come to our sponsoring club events!  Sign up at www.southbayopeningday.org and make a reservation for San Leandro Yacht Club’s dinner Friday night, Peninsula Yacht Club’s dinner Saturday night and / or South Bay Yacht Club’s breakfast Sunday!  Of course, Sequoia will be serving breakfast plus a lunch with a band on Saturday.

Attend our land and water celebration on Saturday at Sequoia Yacht Club!  It starts with breakfast at 8:00 and the Opening Day ceremony kicks off at 10:30 with the arrival of our Grand Marshall.  The boat parade begins at 11:00.  After the parade, feel free to stroll by the safety and informational displays on your way to lunch.

If you have a boat or a kayak or a stand-up-paddle-board it is not too late to sign up for the boat parade on the SBOD website.  This is a great opportunity to decorate your boat, get out on the water and perhaps win some prizes for your efforts.

Thanks to the Redwood City Department of Public Works, a creek side trash pick-up has been added.  It will be very informal and starts in the early afternoon at the DPW booth.

We at Sequoia are fortunate to have excellent yacht club neighbors, a supportive Port administration and a diverse and challenging boating venue to enjoy all year.  Opening Day is a celebration of all we have going for us in the South Bay and is completely worth our time and support.  See you out there!

Garden Party - June 2nd

What is a garden party? - well - it is an open house but primarily garden centric.

The event is from 2-6pm. Come for all of the time, come for a couple of hours - it is our pleasure to host you.

You will meet many of your Sequoia friends.

There will be crazy English things like a Ragtime Band.  There will also be a Beer tent - one of the better English traditions, a wine bar which we inherited from the French, a cocktail bar with Pimms and Bucks Fizz, soft drinks such as Iced tea and lemonade and of course strawberries and cream (just like Wimbledon). And we shall have other hors d'ourves that go with wine and beer - cheeses and cold meats. And of course did I mention cucumber sandwiches.....

All are welcome! Children are welcome. Here is one afternoon with a chance to relax, take a day off the water and have a lot of fun. Unlike England we are pretty much guaranteed to have a sunny day!

We look forward to seeing you there! Please signup onlilne to help with the numbers - we have plenty of space so it is just the catering I want to get right.

Our address is 50 Barry Lane, Atherton.

This is just my way of saying 'Thank You' for a great year - and we are only half way though it - more to come!!

Peter - your Commodore
