PNA HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS
The PhinneyWood Art Walk is this weekend on Fri, Sept. 23, 6-9 pm and Sat, Sept. 24, 12-5 pm! This neighborhood party is one of the biggest art walks in Seattle, and features art, music, and performances at more than 40 local businesses. PhinneyWood Art Walk maps and a list participating venues are online and most art walk stops will have printed maps. Limited edition art walk posters and stickers are on sale in our Blue Building and proceeds benefit our arts and culture events. If you'd like to be involved, we need volunteers to help pick up PhinneyWood Art Walk signs on Saturday. This event is sponsored by Aide-mémoire Jewelry, Chris Case State Farm, and Taproot Theatre.
Our Greenwood Senior Center has served the community for over 45 years, connecting thousands of older adults each year with enriching activities, services, and programs. From fitness classes to delicious lunches and engaging events, our programs create opportunities for the community to come together—both virtually and in person. Our annual Power of Community fundraiser celebrates the cornerstones of our senior programming, including the PNA Village and Memory Loss Program. Our goal for this year is $60,000 and we need your help to reach it! Make a tax-deductible donation today and help us spread the word about this campaign to show the power of community.
In 2021, our board members and staff agreed on a set of values to help us focus on ‘what matters most’ and guide our decision-making: belonging, inclusivity, intentional engagement, and responsiveness. Our new Annual Report shows examples of our values driving our impact.
Our inaugural Bite of PhinneyWood tasting event was a huge hit! More than 500 community members tried food from amazing local restaurants and the event raised more than $20,000 for our community-driven programs and services on Sept. 17. Bite attendees were invited to vote for the best Bite of the event. And the winner is... up to you! After counting the results several times, the contest is tied between North Star Diner's Left Coast Reuben and Thaiku's Gaeng Krua Sapparod. Learn how to break the tie and see Bite of PhinneyWood photos on our blog!
Our Social Connection Project's first Speed Friending event was a friendtastic success! Twenty community members joined us for this fun and fast-paced way to meet new people. Everyone that attended got at least one friend match, and everyone who gave feedback said they agreed or strongly agreed that they felt more connected to others as a result of the event. The Social Connection Project is part of our Greenwood Senior Center. Its goal is to identify, develop, and connect people to programs and events that foster social connection, both at the GSC and in the community.
Our Community Woodshop is a space that supports a broad community of fabrication and woodworking. We welcome members who are enthusiastic about learning with, teaching, and inspiring one another... and we hope that you'll check out this open house! See the woodshop in action, enjoy refreshments, and learn about the space.
We love our members! To show our gratitude, we're hosting tea and treats at the GSC. Swing by to enjoy refreshments, chat with fellow PNA members, and learn more about our community programs and services!
Can you provide first aid, take care of injuries, help a choking infant, and stop cardiac arrest? Learn those skills and more in this injury prevention-focused course. It's taught by Ken Norris, a 26-year veteran of the Seattle Fire Department. Certificates are issued at the end of class.
Our Ballard Preschool Co-op and Phinney Neighborhood Preschool Co-op are teaming up for a big sale! They'll have deals on gently used clothing, shoes, toys, books, strollers, maternity wear and much more! Grab a tote and line up early for the very best selection. Enter the doors after 12 pm and enjoy 50% off many items.
